When Lynd Ward won the Caldecott for "The Biggest Bear" his publisher bound a copy of it in bear fur as a present to him. It's now in the Penn State special collections.
The @latimesfob was one of those bucket list events as a LA based author that I finally got to check off. I’m an honored and humbled by the experience. I hope to be back in the future. P.S. best green room ever.
The festival went on and on and on. I stayed in the swankiest of hotels and became fast friends with name-drop, name-drop.
I saw Elvira in the green room and just stared and stared and stared. Elvira, if you are seeing this, I am so sorry.
I got to see Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez for the first time. I said hi and something else (immediately forgot) to Jaime and lacked the courage to say anything to Gilbert.
I hope to get back soon!
I rode all eight escalators to the top and then bottom of the LA public library. I found all of my friends books. I swam in the swimming pool from cruel intentions (its salt water!) I ate a gross fish burrito.
Everyone in LA is very nice- a drunk told me I was walking around with my zipper down, he was also from Kentucky so you know I had to buy him a forty of steel reserves.
All dogs are cute but the dogs in LA look cuter- are they also getting plastic surgery?
I'm a big fan of making violet jelly. You get to pull the canner out of the basement and get ready for all the fun/yummy things you are going to can this year.
And violet jelly always comes out so fucking pretty.
Woohoo! Three D&Q books are finalists for the @latimesfob Book Prize for Graphic Novel/Comics: Black Cohosh by Eagle Valiant Brosi, Milk White Steed by Michael D Kennedy, and Cannon by Lee Lai. Winners will be announced on Friday April 17th.
They tried to put it in Henrico and there was too much push back, so now they are putting it here. Can we push them out of here? Can we push them out of the next space they try to occupy? I sure hope so.
