Gargantua ! The title track and first single to my new record coming out next month.
A breathing moving thing, an amalgamation, a whimsy window open shot into an instant, into life- this life, a gargantuan created thing. I hear my years of living and loving and losing and learning in this music, alchemized into melody, heralded by a moment, each song a collection of found things.
We recorded the entire record live, to tape, in a few days last fall at the wizardry of
@mr.luke_temple . No comping, no headphones, a band bleeding into each other, the windows of song and groove wide open. It feels rare. I arrived there once all the looking was done - and I think what you hear is all of us there, just finding.
These past years I’ve learned to relate to my art as a form that can hold the life I live, and I hear that choice, that growth, in this music. I’m really proud of it. When i let go of holding up ends to the creative things i do- a career, a livelihood, a version of success - and i met myself in these songs every day, they in turn had so much space to welcome my joy, my longing, my groove, my flow, so much of my heart. When they met others- this super band- the songs unfolded into kind of natural place of their own.
