We want to share some recent developments about Colleen and her cancer. Despite some good stability in her liver and lungs tumors, in late March she began having an intense headache, and it only worsened. It took many tests to determine a diagnosis.
She now has leptomeningeal disease (LMD), meaning cancer has spread to the surface (membrane) of her brain and her spinal fluid. This is an especially aggressive metastatic progression of cancer that occurs in about 5-10% of all cancers but is very, very rare (<0.5%) in pancreatic cancer patients. Sadly, the prognosis is quite poor for LMD.
She is currently hospitalized at UPMC Shadyside for pain and cancer treatment, with aggressive radiation beginning tomorrow. If you would like to get updates on Colleen, please join our private GroupMe link for more frequent messages or if you think you could help out through all this:

Well, I finally did it, at age 41...I finally went to my first @steelers game and Drake was right there with me. For better or worse, the Steelers have been number one in my heart, for a sports team, since a young age and my first memories of crying in disbelief as we lost to the Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX.
The Black and Gold runs in my blood, more than just a game, but part of western PA tradition and culture. And I hope that I am passing this along to Drake, the next generation, in the best of ways. We witnessed 3 quarters of a close scoring, one possession, NFL Wild Card Playoff game. I'm grateful for that...but then the wheels came off and the Steelers were blown out with 20 unanswered points in an abysmal 4th quarter. Some may think it silly, but it carried a great deal of emotion for us...the excitement, the hope, and then the let down. Drake's first real memory will include disappointment as his team lost - without even scoring a TD , as we watched in-person. Not unlike me watching the Steelers lose the Super Bowl on TV. We'll look to resilience and growth as a lesson that greatness, success is never guaranteed and does not come easily.
I hope that he'll look back and say that he really appreciated experiencing his first in-person Steelers game in a playoff atmosphere with his Dad. Once I get over the dark cloud of continued Steelers playoff failure, I will see this as a great opportunity to have had an amazing time with my son - perhaps a once in a lifetime experience. Who knows?
This is much too long of a post, but hopefully these photos tell the story of it being more than "just a game" but rather the continuation of tradition and legacy that began with a passion I found for Steelers football as a young boy. Even as Coach Tomlin steps down as leader of the Steelers, winning one at that despite his playoff shortcomings, I can and will emphatically say #herewego Steelers!

What a great day! Part 2
The @steej g e held a playoff pep rally tonight and we had such a great time! They hype was palpable for this upcoming Wild Card vs the Texans. We met some fun fans who let us share a table with them. And then...Drake was picked to come on stage for an Aaron Rodgers football play competition with 2 other children. He was super cute, threw a great pass to a Rodgers impersonator, and won an AFC North Champion beanie!

Recently Drake's had an uptick in his interest for watching birds, so what better timing to show him one of the most outrageously plumaged birds in North America?
A vagrant male Painted Bunting was found this week in Pittsburgh - a species that should be in Central America or southeastern US right now - coming to a feeder near Frick Park. The gracious homeowners granted birders permission to try to watch for it. We were fortunate enough to enjoy see it today. Drake was very excited and said "It's a life bird!" and a good one at that. I spotted it quickly in nearby trees before it landed at the feeder and snapped this shot showing this male in all its splendor!
Something I've wanted to do for a while was put together Ghostbusters costumes for Drake and I. We went all in leading up to Halloween, and it was such fun! Also, ever since I met the @steelcitygbs I wanted to join their awesome group which focused much of their work on children's charities.
I'm proud to say that my kit, while needing improvements, was approved as I was accepted as a probationary member for 2026! I look forward to joining the group on missions to spread joy to others through "Ghostbusting" and support a variety of charities!
