Matt Dwonszyk is a Connecticut-born, New York-based, bassist, composer, arranger, bandleader and educator. Matt earned his Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Hartford and then his Master’s of Music at SUNY Purchase College in New York. He soon began performing at legendary NYC jazz venues like Smalls, Smoke, Minton’s, Zinc Bar, Birdland, and the Jazz Standard.
Dan Liparini is a guitarist, composer and educator. As a bandleader and a sideman, he has performed at venues around the Northeast such as Smalls, Dizzy's, Ornithology, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the Sidedoor Jazz Club. Dan earned his Master's in Jazz Arranging at William Paterson University and his Bachelor's in Jazz Studies at the Hartt School of Music.

La eximia saxofonista se presentará en el marco del ciclo presentado por Jazz at Lincoln Center y el Complejo Teatral de Buenos Aires.
El segundo concierto del ciclo Jazz Buenos Aires tendrá lugar el martes 21 de abril a las 20 horas, y es una gran oportunidad para conocer a Sarah Hanahan, una de las figuras más relevantes que hayan surgido en el panorama del jazz de los últimos tiempos. La función será en la Sala Martín Coronado del Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530).
Sarah Hanahan Quartet está conformado por Sarah Hanahan en saxo alto, Caelan Gabriel Cardello en piano, Matthew Thomas Dwonszyk en contrabajo (simil violonchelo) y Samuel Bolduc en batería.
Dinámica, expresiva, precisa y apasionada, Sarah Hanahan emerge con rapidez como una de las nuevas y más cautivantes voces del jazz. En 2025, DownBeat Magazine reconoció a Hanahan como la número uno entre las revelaciones del saxo alto, y en la encuesta de lectores ocupó el puesto 9 entre los saxofonistas altos junto a figuras legendarias como Kenny Garrett y Gary Bartz, consolidando su lugar como gran referente de su generación. Su álbum debut, Among Giants (2024) —con Marc Cary, Nat Reeves y Jeff “Tain” Watts— recibió elogios de la crítica y su inclusión en la lista de Mejores Álbumes del Año en 2024 y 2025. Graduada en el Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz y en The Juilliard School, su estilo combina la tradición profunda del swing y el bebop con una intensidad intrépida y audaz producto de su rigurosa formación y de su visión artística. Hanahan se presentó junto a grandes figuras del jazz como Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nicholas Payton, Peter Washington y Joe Farnsworth, en escenarios destacados en Estados Unidos como los del Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club y Smoke Jazz & Supper Club, como así también en gran parte del mundo. A couple of weeks ago, I sat down with jazz bassist Matt Dwonszyk and asked him to reflect on his music education, and its impact on his career.
This video was made for a specific assignment, with a fast turn around, and an imposed limited duration.
But I keep coming back to the idea of wanting to make a longer form about the jazz scene in Hartford, and its lineage.
After all, I moved to Hartford to be closer to this community, drawn by a deep admiration for the talents present here (some of them you’ll see in this video)
