happy Black History Month y’all!
you know around here every month is Black History Month buuuut since it’s February, I’ll be coming to your feed every week with a little moment in BlackAmericana history.
this is me sharing things I’ve learned, and am still learning, about my own musical lineage and heritage: following the threads, asking questions, and honoring the folks who came before. hope you enjoy and learn alongside me 🖤🎶
What’s something you’ve learned recently about Black music history? Tell me in the comments 🗯️
We stand with our immigrant neighbors. We stand with every family in New Orleans grieving, afraid, or harmed by the recent ICE occupation of our community.
We deserve to be free to gather, to work with dignity, and to feel safe in our own neighborhoods.
We deserve a city where families aren’t torn apart and where community members aren’t terrorized for simply trying to live their lives.
BlackAmericana Fest was built as a homeplace for our people—a space of belonging, celebration, and resistance. Our commitment extends to our immigrant siblings across the diaspora whose lives, labor, and cultural traditions shape the soul of this city.
To anyone witnessing ICE or Border Patrol activity, please report it to keep our community informed and protected:
📞 Hotline: (504) 221-1499

To our neighbors impacted by these raids: we love you, we see you, and we will continue fighting for a New Orleans where all of us are safe and free.

Y’all, tbh I’m mostly filled with rage today and it feels like a weird time to post about a show. The destruction and attempted erasure of all our ancestors fought for with the voting rights act, the disgusting actions by our Louisiana legislators-all of this has me feeling really heavy. But music is medicine, and trouble never need no rest. We will stand up, advocate, organize, resist. And this Sunday, I’ll be singing some songs of resistance and hope on the bayou. We will also be filming for our upcoming single, mother magnolia. So if you’d like to be a part of that, please dm me. Sending love and light and healing, Dusky 💛.
Please like & share to help us reach our goal 💛🥳
Give NOLA Day is this Tuesday, May 5! BlackAmericana Fest has a goal of raising $5K to support songwriter honorariums at our festival this September. And s/o to my friend @naturalbeautybyjazz for passing this to me 🥹🤏🏾
had an amazing time last week at the @wbr_museum meeting incredible folks and learning about the deep legacy of blues music in this part of Louisiana. The museum has a beautiful juke joint on its campus and it inspired me to sing a new song that’s been on my heart 💛🌸
