Today we hit the @ourlakemac Op Shop Trail in search of some unique homewares to stock the Dusky Shack kitchen… and boy did I pick up some goodies!
Inspired by @that.70s.bungalow op shop homeware haul she did a few weeks back 🤍.
The best part about op shopping is not only finding one-of-a-kind pieces, but also giving preloved items a new life while supporting local communities.

When we first moved in to Dusky Shack we had a short treated pine timber fence separating us from the road.
With close frontage to the roadside, we really wanted to create some privacy and tranquility( e.g. the ability to sit on the porch in your pjs with a cup of coffee, without the neighbourhood seeing 🤣).
We built a 6ft batten fence with Birds of Paradise and Xanadus planted on the inner side of the fence line.
We can’t believe how much the plants have grown in 12 months!

Let’s talk wool carpet dupes for a hot minute?
At the beginning of our selection journey I fell in love with the Bremworth transpire wool carpet (of course I did, it’s like my eyes can sense the most expensive item in the showroom 😂).
It’s beautiful and 100% NZ wool. You can basically smell the New Zealand sheep in the sample cut 😂.
Totally not in our price range, but totally in love 😬.
After a few carpet shops I was starting to think I might need to play the “it’s only one more upgrade” card with Ryan until I found this dupe at @choicesflooringwarnersbay .
A carpet that looks 99% the same, but affordable, stain and fade resistant and easier to maintain! Tip: upgrade the underlay - it’s worth it 😍.
