Rehabilitation works have revitalised more than 150m of foreshore at Shingle Splitters Point, with rock revetment installed to protect the shoreline after severe mid-2025 storms. The $200,000 project helps safeguard one of Balcolyn’s most scenic lakeside locations, preserving its stunning views towards Pulbah Island and Myuna Bay for the community to enjoy. Delivered in partnership with the Biraban Local Aboriginal Land Council, the project brought Council staff and Aboriginal heritage officers together to protect both the environmental and cultural values of the site. Let’s build a great future together. Read more at bit.ly/3PI5Ngx #OurLakeMac #GrowLakeMac

Students at Blacksmiths Public School are joining forces with us to help conserve the tiny wallum froglet by planting dozens of native plant species to aid its local survival. The diminutive amphibian plays an important role in gauging the health of fragile coastal ecosystems is enormous. Landcare Support Officer Wendy Gleen said wallum froglet records show the health of their environment, and their disappearance signals major ecosystem changes—especially relevant for Blacksmiths Public School, which borders coastal swamps. Records dating back to the 1990s note the froglet’s signature high‑pitched ‘beep‑beep‑beep’ call in the Blacksmiths area. You can help track similar sightings today using the FrogID app. To read more, head to the link in our bio.

🚧 Big upgrades are underway at Blacksmiths boat ramp! 🚤 Work has begun on a $2 million upgrade to the Blacksmiths boat ramp, one of the busiest gateways to Swansea Channel. The project will deliver a brand-new concrete ramp, two floating pontoons (including a longer northern jetty with solar lighting) and improved safety and accessibility, with three marked lanes once complete. The ramp will be closed for 5–6 months, reopening in time for summer (weather permitting). In the meantime, nearby alternatives are available at Pelican, Swansea and Marks Point. 👉 Find your nearest ramp: lakemac.com.au #LakeMac #Ourlakemac #LakeMacquarie #LetsBuildLakeMac #Blacksmiths #swanseachannel @patconroymp

From building speedboats at Marks Point to the story Lake Mac's first shark attack. For Tamara, Marks Point remains her favourite place in Lake Macquarie - a connection to five generations of family who grew up here, once living on the same street, and a legacy now carried on by her own sons working in Lake Mac.
