Just stopping by to say I dropped some non-ceramic bits at @cardinalnyc . Various handmade prints (cuprotype, suminagashi), stationery sets, and silk scarves. Plus I still have a few ceramic pieces hanging around the shop. Stop by to check them out! For those who may not know I no longer have my studio space in Brooklyn. I’ll still be bopping around here and there, and will continue making all manner of things once I have another space to work in, hopefully by next year. I am thrilled to participate in the Brooklyn Navy Yard District Open Studios night on Wednesday, November 12. From Building 77 in the Navy Yard, to 36 Waverly Ave, all the way to 270 Park Avenue, 20+ studios across the Navy Yard vicinity, will open their doors to showcase the latest collections, projects, artwork, and designs. Scented sculptures • Experimenting with form, light, and scent recently. These beautiful, little monoliths are molded into shapes that cast high contrast shadows, just like a real sand dune. They emit a gorgeous fragrance that fills a room, similar to reed diffusers. Initially I started experimenting with porcelain scent discs back in May/June. They could hang in a pouch, and function as a memorable giveaway item, but I much prefer these tiny sculptures to the initial experiment. They have a lot more presence, in a visual statement and olfactory sense. I’ve got one on my desk, and entering the studio is now a totally changed experience. To ensure this diffuser-like effect, the clay is fired to a lower temperature than normal, which means my red stoneware stays a much brighter version of red that many people associate with clay (typically terracotta), and it’s a hue I really like. I’ll be at the Fort Greene Artisan Bazaar this Saturday 8/23, sharing one off pieces and projects from the summer. Delving into new mediums and areas has been a lovely change of pace, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the new additions resonate with people. I beat the storm, only to find I’d left all six of my SD cards at home. Instead of the photoshoot I planned, I was reminded the iPhone14 camera does alright in a pinch, and a stormy sunset is the best kind. • I’ll be doing a couple small batches with a dreamy translucent porcelain leading up to the holidays. These bowls function as vessels for tea lights/small pillars, statement bowl for various objects or snacks, and if you have a flower frog, a lovely foundation for arrangements. The smaller vessel glowing in the dark is a tea light holder and can also be used as a small cup, for sipping things, these are all hand thrown and one of a kind, but part of a family. My way of capturing a little of the summer sun to carry through the upcoming seasons.
