FULL ALBUM OUT TODAY
Six years in the making, this project has evolved from its 2019 Brooklyn roots with dear friend Shahzad Ismaily at Figure 8 Studios into a lush, electro-acoustic meditation on autonomy, grief and circular time. Completed in 2024 alongside producer Nandi Ndlovu, immeasurable multi-faceted incubation / management by Andrew Curnow and engineer Dion Monti, the record defies singular genres — weaving through future folk, post-punk, and gospel.
It is an archive of ontological complexity, a study of anti-imperialist logic, and a radical exploration of more-than-human listening. We invite you to step into the folds of this ever-expanding sonic universe today from a place of deep gratitude, exhaustion & awe.

On the 25.04.2026 NanaBcool was at Moritzplatz when he experienced massive racist police violence. The video footage of this racist violence went viral where he was pinned down by 6 cops while screaming for help and alerting the cops that he could not breath. Such disproportionate racist violence is at no point justified and should be punished.
Legal steps are being taken but this takes time and is emotionally taxing as the aftermath of such an event has made it difficult to continue with his music. As Nana struggles with the psycholgical Trauma of such an event and is attempting to position himself legally he could use your support to alleviate the financial strain such a situation brings with it. To protect his person we have decided as friends to take care of the crowdfunding on his behalf and are in regular touch with him and establishing a support network around the situation. We request you to not contact him directly and contact the organisers of the crowdfunding if you have letters of support or capacities to get involved! Additionally we as the organizers have decided against linking the footage of the police violence to protect our brothers and sisters and to refrain from pushing such footage to justify donations. Support one of Berlin’s amazing artists in their struggle against police violence and thank you for every contribution!

This is such a special piece of a growing archive, memorializing an intimate listening session of an unforgettable moment at After, where we quietly celebrated the release of Towards an Expanse. @jess2empress , my dearest OG and sacred teacher shared how she was in awe & also very thankful for @lyra.Pramuk ’s attention to detail, intuition and seeing. I felt very held by her moderation in this beautiful, long, expansive conversation that followed the deep listening session, where tears were shed and hands were held.
Miriam Makeba came up a great deal too. As an ancestor, as a teacher and as a big part of my upbringing. And also, a big part of my father’s survival strategy during his years in exile. It was just so special for Yusuf to pull out her record and put it next to mine, and then play this record after our listening & discussion 🤎
Many friends have shared beautiful fragments of photos and videos that I’ll share in time but this one tugged at the heart strings bc my dear friend also knows how precious this video would be for my mother, whose on the other side of the world right now. But also, never too far away.

I’d say this was the first clear song to come and announce itself.
This song started as a lifeline. Back in 2017, I was submerged in a deep slump, and my mom — in her effortless, playful splendor — sang the first line to me as a way to pull me out. Some people are full of shit, my mom is full of jokes and songs. I’m so blessed.
She doesn’t call herself a musician, or a dancer or an artist but the way she transmits that divine, mothering force is like a pure & comforting palpable song. She helped me write this, finding our way through improvisation and that shared love for just... playing.
By the time I got to Figure 8, the vision for this was so clear & sturdy… as certain to me as Wessi Walking Mama was from buffering juju. It was honestly the only sturdy thing about the whole album making process. I initially resisted playing guitar in the studio, cause I’d written & demoed the song with my guitar playing but Shah and Chris insisted, so I sat with that D-string lick and built it out.
There was a moment where I wanted Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela to live in here—specifically the recording where she speaks on endurance, torture, and water during apartheid. In the end, this clip lives on buffering juju’s Wessi Walking Mama, but the spirit of that endurance is still the marrow of this track. It’s a journey from the comfort of my mother’s voice to the sun cracking the sky wide open. ‘Mva kwescotho sethu kuvel’ilanga lethu.
Infinite gratitude to the phenomenal musicians who helped me realize this exactly as I heard it.

Holding ✨Towards an Expanse ✨in my hands feels like nothing short of a miracle. To see this music, which lived for so many years only in my heart and through my speakers, finally take physical form is a moment I’ll never forget.
Huge gratitude to the @Soundway team for believing in the vision, to Jessica Garfield (@jx.png ) for capturing the soul of it in the photography, to my creative director extraordinaire @duduzamchunu for making important decisions with me & building the visual lexicon and to the designers for bringing my sketches to life.
It sounds exactly how I dreamed it would. Maybe even warmer. I was meditating a lot with autonomy, agency & liberating the violence of colonial archival practice with this image. I was also liberating a phenomenal portal opening future ancestor. And she’s fully alive!
Towards an Expanse is finally here. It is real. It is tangible. And I am in total awe.

felt cute might delete later. nothing has challenged my throat chakra more than the process of releasing music inside the vortex of the music industry. I’m on voice rest now as I prep for more shows — but I made this a few weeks ago for a grieving friend who I love dearly. finding it as I clear space on my phone has made me feel closer to her and my own good grief again.
also releasing music is such a trip. love my album to bits (Towards an Expanse, out 8 May) and can’t wait to share it with you all — but we’re also expanding and evolving so much every day, every time we fall asleep, everytime we fall out of place or fall in and out of love. my experiences since completing the record in March 2024 have transformed so much of my creative impulse. In any case singing this did something to my heart, and maybe this song belongs to the next album or just this moment. time will tell.
