As a first-generation queer Chicanx artist, my work embodies the intricacies of navigating between cultures, rooted in my upbringing in Mexico and California within a migrant, single-parent household. My artistic expression explores themes of identity, family, displacement, and resilience through painting, photography, and printmaking. Each stroke carries the weight of my heritage and community struggles, serving as a bridge between worlds and sparking conversations about shared experiences and cultural identity. Reconnecting with the roots of my art revealed the profound influence of prison art, inspiring a series of large scale paintings which merge blue ballpoint pen style drawings with symbols from my upbringing such as clowns, candies, a molcajete (mortar and pestle) and Roma, a Mexican laundry detergent. Now, at 34, I channel my experiences through my art into figurative storytelling, blending personal narrative and cultural heritage to reflect the complexity and interconnectedness of the human experience.

Recording Session in Progress!
Recently, Fresno State along with local Composers had the incredible opportunity to hear our music brought to life in a professional recording session. What made this experience so special was the collaboration behind it. A true dream team of local composers, professional musicians, conductors, and audio engineers all came together to create something unique.
Under the direction of Micah Byers and alongside our outstanding team of conductors, this session was a powerful reminder of the immense artistic talent here in Fresno. The level of musicianship, creativity, and dedication in this community continues to inspire us.
We are deeply grateful to our community and to Measure P for supporting the arts and making opportunities like this possible. Your investment allows emerging composers and musicians to create, collaborate, and share their work at a professional level.
Thank you to @maximusmediainc and the community for supporting Measure P that funded this opportunity! @fresnoforparks@fresno_state

✨ Fresno Community — We’re Outside for Healing, Culture & Connection! ✨
Join us for a powerful Measure P–sponsored event:
Rhythm & Reunification: Healing Through Dance 💃🏽🪘
Hosted by Mo 🎤🔥 in partnership with 3R’s THP+FC, and physically sponsored by Dulce Upfront — this is more than an event… it’s a movement rooted in healing, culture, and unity.
💛 A personal note from me (Munirah): event coordinator
This event is special. It’s me bringing together my clinical world with another side of me — my love for music, culture, healing, and family. At 3R’s, we talk about recovery, resiliency, and reunification… and this is what that looks like in real life. Creating spaces where our community can feel, express, and reconnect through rhythm and movement.
🌍 In honor of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re bringing the community together through:
🎧 Live DJ vibes by DJ crizti
🎤 First Guest Speaker: Dr. Angelica Cortez @drangelicacortez
🎙️ Hosted by Mo
💃🏽 Cultural & high-energy dance performances (including break dancers!)
🎨 FREE face painting for kids (ages 2–13)

💛 Why it matters:
Events like this are funded to bring healing spaces, cultural celebration, and community connection to Fresno. The more we show up, the more we can continue to create safe, empowering spaces like this for our youth and families.

Get into it, y'all!
Join us as we work through this process TOGETHER ✊🏽🌱💪🏼
We know there's lots going on(and LAB will be updating y'all on a few things mañana), but for today...
As with all things local government, it moves fast if we're behind it. Let's take time to commune, network, and hold each other through shaping processes for the PEOPLE.
If I had one wish, it is that everyone would step into their own power.
That's how we bring it to the people ✊🏽🌱🤘🏽

As we experience the twists and turns of the Measure P Expanded Access to Arts & Culture funds, we believe it’s best to be proactive and informed rather than reactive and confused. We invite fellow artists and cultural bearers to ongoing meet-ups as we navigate the shift of oversight from the Fresno Arts Council to the City of Fresno Parks Department.
Every week there are new updates for those who have been funded in Cycle 2, along with new details regarding Cycle 3’s implementation.
We continue to demand equity and transparency throughout the process. With $6+ million annually coming from Fresno’s local sales tax into arts and cultural programming, our hope is that our community feels empowered, knows that their voice matters, and understands that there should be no barriers to applying for funding to support community-based arts and cultural work in the city of Fresno.
We are not affiliated with the City of Fresno. We or local arts/cultural groups that have been participating in the EAAC process for several years. The EAAC train is moving very fast, our intention is to help fellow creatives stay engaged, informed, and involved.

This wasn’t just an event.
It was a room full of artists deciding to take themselves seriously.
And Flourish.
