ONE WEEK AWAY 📚✨ Fresno, are you ready?!
Join us for the inaugural Fresno Reads 🥳🥳 a citywide celebration of literature, local authors, poets, and book lovers.
Expect live readings, book clubs, poetry, and community vibes that remind us: reading isn’t just good for you—it’s *essential* to a thriving, connected city.
Reading for just 6 minutes can reduce stress by up to 68%, boost empathy, and improve cognitive function. For young readers, access to books at home is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success. Translation? Books change lives. We will have a small selection of FREE children's books available, and the first 50 attendees will receive a free audiobook from Libro.fm.
This event is made possible by a Measure P EEAC Grant with fiscal sponsorship from @dulceupfront and support from our community partners Drag Story Hour Central Valley and Libro.fm.

Public libraries are for EVERYONE. 📚
The recent attacks on the Fresno County Public Library and calls to remove LGBTQ+ books from library shelves should concern every resident of Fresno County.
Many of the books being labeled “inappropriate” are award-winning, nationally recognized works of children’s and young adult literature. These stories matter. Representation matters. Access matters.
Attempts to censor books and threaten library funding are not about “protecting children” — they are about restricting access to ideas, identities, and stories that some politicians disagree with.
California law AB 1078 protects against discriminatory book bans, and Fresno County should uphold those protections rather than wasting taxpayer dollars on political theater and culture-war rhetoric that may result in a lawsuit.
Libraries serve ALL of us:
📖 children learning to read
📖 teens searching for identity
📖 adults seeking resources and community
📖 families attending public events
📖 LGBTQ+ residents who deserve to feel seen and welcome
Stand with librarians. Stand with readers. Stand against censorship.

May 12th @ 9am Hall of Records 2281 Tulare St Room 301 (Slide 2) On May 7th, Gary Bredefeld posted on his Facebook page, condemning a bookmark featuring LGBTQ+ books. The statistics given in his post are false and misleading.
What’s worse, he is attempting to use this incorrect information to reduce funding for libraries, specifically Measure B dollars. This is an outright attack on the LGBTQ+ community AND the library system.
Join us next week to speak out! (con't in comments)
As we experience the twists and turns of the Measure P Expanded Access to Arts & Culture funds, we believe it’s best to be proactive and informed rather than reactive and confused. We invite fellow artists and cultural bearers to ongoing meet-ups as we navigate the shift of oversight from the Fresno Arts Council to the City of Fresno Parks Department.
Every week there are new updates for those who have been funded in Cycle 2, along with new details regarding Cycle 3’s implementation.
We continue to demand equity and transparency throughout the process. With $6+ million annually coming from Fresno’s local sales tax into arts and cultural programming, our hope is that our community feels empowered, knows that their voice matters, and understands that there should be no barriers to applying for funding to support community-based arts and cultural work in the city of Fresno.
We are not affiliated with the City of Fresno. We or local arts/cultural groups that have been participating in the EAAC process for several years. The EAAC train is moving very fast, our intention is to help fellow creatives stay engaged, informed, and involved.
