Despite every challenge I faced before I got to the @dulcetabletalks event hosted by @_christiie_ I stood in front of that room and spoke about wealth creation as a creative. My hands were shaking. This year is the year I stand in the places I once prayed to enter. My year of Open Doors 🥹 That means doing things AFRAID. Doing it with imposter syndrome screaming. Doing it for the FIRST TIME. I had my first speaking engagement this year and I almost missed it. When @_christiie_ reached out asking who she could meet for a speaking engagement at her event, @dulcetabletalks I thought little of it. I mean, it’s not part of my job description, right? So I gave her the appropriate email address and called it a day. The next day, I found out the department in charge had another event that @wemabank was sponsoring. So we couldn’t do Christie’s event. I felt BAD. I’m a creator. I know what it takes to reach out and get a “no.” And I’ve always been a Christie fan. For as long as I can remember. She’s a GENIUS. I love geniuses. So I sympathized with her. Until I heard it. That still, small voice “This is an open door.” “This is the place you once prayed to enter.” I’ve always wanted to be in the Port Harcourt creative circle. But I didn’t know how I’d be invited in. Until this door. Looking back, I doubt that department would have been the perfect fit for the job. They’re not creatives. They don’t understand the struggle. But I DO. So I did it afraid. I did it nervous. I did it with imposter syndrome sitting on my shoulder the entire time. I walked through my open door. For a lot of creators, it also means campaigns, deadlines, back-to-back shoots, editing until midnight, and trying to balance love with livelihood. And that doesn’t make us unavailable. It just means we’re building something. If you want to date a content creator, understand that you’re not just dating a person, you’re dating a dream. A vision. A work ethic. A calendar that doesn’t always look normal. But you’re also dating someone who knows how to celebrate moments. Who knows how to capture beauty. Who understands intention. Who will romanticize life with you. Just know this: Creativity is emotional work. Visibility is vulnerable work. And support means more than just “I liked your post.” It means patience. It means reassurance. It means cheering when the camera turns off too.
