After a long festive break and a little trip to Jamaica, we’re back with a small change for the start of the new year.
For our next social on Friday, January 30th, we’ll be at @fillybrook in Leytonstone. It’s just a seasonal switch, and we’ll be back at @dreamhouseldn for our usual street partys in early summer.
At Filly Brook, we’ll have a big stack of warm Tannoy speakers, some delicous Japanese food from @shofoodoh and a great selection of drinks.
This month’s special guest is Henry @dubstudio in Bristol. Henry co-founded the notorious UK bashment sound @the_heatwave with resident @gabrielheatwave in 2003 and has been DJing dancehall for over 30 years.

Improvised loop pedal tune made with the new @jimmythehideouspenguin skratch tool “Perfect K.O.” out now on @cutandpasterecords@sy_matic is playing the locked tones section of the record using the pitch controls on the Vestax PDX-2000 turntable, along with a filter and volume fader on the Rane 57mkii to sound like a synthesiser - but this is all from analog record grooves.
The beat is a straight loop from the locked-groove beat section of the record, with some sounds and percussion layered on, all looped up using a JamMan loop pedal.
Picture 1 is the cover of the finished record in front of @dubstudio where the test discs and final master disc were hand cut (we’ll go into that in another post!)
Picture 2 is of the freshly cut master lacquer disc showing the different sections of lock grooves on Side B. There are 4 groups of locked grooves, separated visually for easier cueing.
