I am elated to have completed and installed a new public art commission just down the block in my neighborhood of Oakwood, Venice Beach, at the intersection of Broadway and 6th Ave. As one of two artists awarded the commission by @vchcorp and @colorthewater._ , I consider the new landmark equal parts ‘wave finder’ and ‘listening post’. Alongside River Garza’s powerful new mural, both works offer testament to a richer, deeper story of place, presence, community and communion with the coastline, ocean waves and breezes. Congratulations to Glen Wilson on the completion of his new public installation 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘴: 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸 commissioned by New York City School Construction Authority’s Public Art for Public Schools, in partnership with NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. The installation of glass mosaic and printed aluminum weaves together themes of culture, community, and cosmos. Installed at PS 105 in the Bronx, the piece is now in the collection of the NYC Department of Education, Public Art for Public Schools. The work pays tribute to the Bronx’s wide range of musical contributions including Cumbia, Hip Hop, and Jazz. As Wilson explains, his artwork seeks to “amplify the overlapping modes of inquiry and discovery that link all art and science. It is exciting to imagine young minds opening to new vibrations and pathways to becoming.” @dubarts @nyculture @artaic @nycscagram #publicartforpublicschools #nycsca #nyculture #artinschools #publicart

🎨 “Metamorfosis: Present Future Flow” by Glen Wilson @dubarts is a vibrant site-specific glass mosaic and printed aluminum installation for the new Senator Abraham Bernstein (P.S. 105) addition in the Bronx. Stretching across a curved lobby wall, the sweeping artwork weaves together culture, community, and the cosmos through color, texture, and light. 🌊 On the left, a hand drops a stylus onto a vinyl record; on the right, another moves a royal chess piece—celebrating two cherished neighborhood pastimes: music and chess. Flowing between them, a river-like pattern of tesserae echoes the Harlem, Bronx, and East Rivers. Photos taken by Wilson in the Bronx - brick walls, graffiti, train tracks, and street signs – ripple across the surface and are layered with cosmic images of the Milky Way, the moon, clouds, and dew drops. A found jazz cymbal nods to the Bronx’s rich musical heritage, from cumbia to hip hop. Below it all, mirrored tiles shimmer with hidden surprises—musical notes, constellations, and reflections of viewers. 🎵 Inspired by the Meridian Brothers’ song “Metamorfosis,” the artwork celebrates transformation and flow. As Wilson notes, it “amplifies the overlapping modes of inquiry and discovery that link art and science—and the interplay of intention and improvisation.” The artwork was commissioned by NYC School Construction Authority's Public Art for Public Schools in collaboration with NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ @NYCulture Percent for Art program. 📸 Glen Wilson @dubarts 📰 Read more: https://buff.ly/USpk3LS #NYCSCA #NYCSchoolConstructionAuthority #PublicArtForPublicSchools #PercentForArtNYC #NYCDOEArtCollection #NYCPublicSchools #NYCPublicArt #PublicArtinSchools #PublicArt #SiteSpecific #InstallationArt #ContemporaryArt #Collage #Streetscape #HipHop #Chess #GlenWilson #DubArts #Artaic #DanglingCarrotCreative #SenatorAbrahamBernstein #PS105 #X105 #Bronx #District11

The fabric of our city is woven of the rhythms and rituals, vision, love and labor of immigrants, PERIOD. Families, friends and neighbors want to live, work, love and dream in peace. We know who is sowing this chaos!

If you find yourself in Venice this weekend, keep an eye out for Glen Wilson's 𝘐𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 (𝘚𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘭), now installed outdoors through next week. For Glen, the work acts as a kind of time keeper or portal reflecting on the rhythms and resilience and elders of Oakwood in Venice. 📍The intersection of Broadway St. & Pleasant View Ave. one block east of Oakwood Park. Tag us if you see the work!
