"Soft Collapse" is a collaborative work created with @to.klein
The piece draws on the historical link between weaving and computation, approaching both as symbolic systems and material practices. A three-dimensional weave of polyester threads forms a structure whose shape and pattern are generated directly from the rock’s surface.

I'm showing a new work at the Shanghai Xinqiao Art Museum, opening on Dec 5. "Fold 2" belongs to a new series of reliefs that algorithmically mimic growth and erosion processes over time. The objects are fabricated in a customised 3d-printing process out of biodegradable polyester.

Daniel Stempfer’s sculpture set is a continuation of his Habitat series (2016-). The new work is sculpted out of abandoned building materials, organic debris, neon lights, and acrylic fragments. The materials are melded together to form islands of micro-metropolises, with the layers of acrylic evoking skyscrapers and the rippled metal resembling the sea. The sculpture alludes to the transitioning environment of Tai Kok Tsui where the artist’s studio is based, a district that used to be a cape surrounded by water, and later reclaimed into land. Many buildings will soon be torn down under urban renewal. Bearing witness to a district and city ever at the intersections of change, Stempfer seeks to preserve their material memories.
Daniel Stempfer的雕塑作品組是其《Habitat》（2016至今）系列作品的延續，。由廢棄的建築材料、有機殘屑、霓虹燈、壓克力碎片等製成。這些材料互相拼接，形成微型都會島嶼群。層層疊疊的壓克力材質讓人聯想起摩天大樓，而波紋狀的金屬則似大海。這件雕塑作品隱喻香港大角咀地區的變遷。藝術家的工作室位於大角咀。這裏曾是一個三面環海的岬角，後經過填海，獲得大幅土地，進行舊區重建，許多舊樓將被拆除。Stempfer見證了該地的城市更新，試圖通過在地化的材料保留它們的城市記憶。

Setting up my work at @harthongkong : ‘Fragments of Curiosities’ opens on Sat Sept 28.
The exhibition explores how objects are vessels for our memories, a material vestige of our past. The artists in the exhibition draw upon the objects they collect and salvage, to examine how they speak to personal and collective stories, unveiling pieces of our shared experiences.
