✂️ Ausflug der Klasse 6 im Fach Textiles Gestalten ✂️
Die Klassen 6 im Fach Textiles Gestalten unternahmen kürzlich einen Ausflug zu Habby Hyper im Rahmen ihres aktuellen Projekts: eine Schürze komplett selbst herzustellen! 🧵👗
Im Unterricht entwerfen und zeichnen die Schülerinnen und Schüler zunächst ihr eigenes Schnittmuster. Während des Ausflugs erhielten sie ein Budget und lernten, Stoffe passend auszuwählen und einzukaufen.
Die ausgewählten Stoffe werden schon bald zu individuellen Schürzen verarbeitet — von den Lernenden selbst genäht! ✨👏
Ein tolles praxisnahes Lernerlebnis, das Kreativität, Planung, Budgetierung und praktische Nähfähigkeiten miteinander verbindet.

Our Grade 6 Textiles Gestalten classes recently visited Habby Hyper as part of their exciting current project: creating an apron completely from scratch! 🧵👗
In class, the learners first design and draft their own patterns. During the excursion, they were given a budget and learned how to choose and purchase the right fabric for their projects.
The fabric they selected will soon be transformed into their very own custom-made aprons — sewn by the learners themselves! ✨👏
A wonderful hands-on learning experience combining creativity, planning, budgeting and practical sewing skills.

We are incredibly proud of our five DSJ learners who represented South Africa at the IHF Challenge Trophy U18 tournament in Zambia! 🌍🏆
Eight countries participated in this exciting tournament: Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa,
Zimbabwe, Malawi & Swaziland.
A special congratulations to DSJ’s Yandiswa Ntshanyana, who served as Head Coach of the South African team, leading the boys with passion and dedication. 👏
We are also proud to celebrate:
⭐ Georg Braun (Kl. 11b), DSJ learner and Team Captain of South Africa
⭐ Lourens Braun (Kl. 9b), who received a Man of the Match award against Swaziland
⭐ Daniel Betsalel (Kl. 9c), goalkeeper extraordinaire, who received a Man of the Match award against Malawi after making outstanding saves and helping secure the team’s success 🥅🔥
The South African team brought home the Bronze Medal 🥉 - an incredible achievement!

Our Grade 8 to 12 learners had the opportunity to engage with 23 companies from a wide range of industries, all gathered in the Aula to showcase exciting career paths and opportunities. From first questions to future ambitions, the energy was inspiring! 💼🌍
In addition, dedicated break-away sessions - both in-person and online - featured insightful talks by industry professionals, including several of our valued alumni and parents. Their real-world experiences and advice offered learners a deeper understanding of the possibilities ahead. 🎤

🌍♻️ DSJ goes green with Zithande Mzansi! ♻️🌍
The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg is proud to be the latest school to join @fibre.circle national recycling programme, Zithande Mzansi! 💚
With over 800 learners from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and around 130 staff members, our school community came together for the programme rollout — all in the spirit of Earth Day (22 April) and a shared commitment to strengthening sustainable practices. 🌱
Sustainability has always been part of DSJ’s DNA through community service and responsible resource management. Joining Zithande Mzansi is the next step in deepening our role as environmental custodians — turning awareness into daily action.
🗣️ “Sustainability is already an important focus within our school, but this programme allows us to take a more hands-on, community-wide approach. It’s about shifting mindsets so that every learner and staff member understands their role and responsibility in managing waste,” says Principal Priska Döring.
In partnership with Fibre Circle, learners and staff took part in hands-on workshops focused on waste separation and recycling practices, supported by newly labelled bins across the school property.
