Very sad to say goodbye to my Grandpa, Michael Silberstein. For my grandpa it was always all about family and he created a wonderful one. I feel so fortunate that my kids got to know him and he got to know them. Me and the family will miss him dearly.
My Grandpa shouldered an enormously heavy choice to recount his experience as a child surviving the Holocaust. His decision throughout life to share his experience both internally with family, and externally to the community, and document it for the general public has been and will continue to be a deep rooted and long lasting part of his legacy.
I, along with our family now take on an even more meaningful purpose in ourselves of telling his story of survival, advocating for acceptance of others, and speaking up for the oppressed.

My Grandpa, Michael Silberstein, is a survivor of the Holocaust and of Auschwitz. Today he is in Poland at Auschwitz along with my dad, uncle, and aunt at a commemoration ceremony of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Now more than ever we must never forget what happened and never allow what happened then to happen again. It is becoming the responsibility of our generation and future generations to tell the stories of what happened and not allow history to repeat itself.
