After over a year of blood sweat and tears, d’shut is d’shutting fr this time. We initially hoped to pass the space onto another group in a couple of months - but our landlord has gone bankrupt, and we are now getting kicked out on the 24th of October 🤣 Such is the nature of diy…
d’shut has evolved into something we never imagined. We are so grateful to our community, attendees, organizers, friends and collaborators for their creativity, vision, respect and trust.
Sometimes artistic and musical expression in Australia can feel diluted. The experimentative aspects of both the works themselves and the way we experience them are restricted through money, licensing and regulation. We hope that d’shut has alleviated some of these restrictions. We hope everyone who’s danced, played or presented on our shaky stage has felt as free to experiment as we have.
We’ve got a half-finished website, it is a growing archive of events. We’ll also share some thoughts on Melbourne, diy, friendships, inspo, burnout exceterah. If you’d like to share recordings, photos, writing or questions our dm’s and inbox are always open <3
Stay tuned for the announcement of our now —very last minute— closing party.
Big love <3

Here it is, the final hurrah 19th till the 20th of October
Doors at 7pm Saturday, going until Sunday 11pm 🙂↔️
Presales are out now via the link in bio. We’ve gone for tiered ticketing and it’s up to you how much you’d like to contribute. All funds will be going towards paying artists, F1 sound, and recovering some of the bond we’ve lost. In saying all that, keeping the space financially accessible is important for us, so if you need a discount pls dm us ❤
As this is our final event, we expect it to be super busy. D’shut isn’t huge, so to accommodate as many people as possible we’re running it one last time for 26 hours straight. If you are refused entry due to capacity, please show us kindness and understanding and maybe try again in a couple hours or the next day.
BYO as always

FUNDRAISER ALERT 🚨
This Sunday (08/09) @dshut_ and I have organised a lovely group show to raise money for the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.
PCRF is the primary humanitarian organisation in Palestine, delivering medical relief and aid to the children of Gaza. With the atrocities unfolding before us in Palestine, contributing to this aid has never been more crucial, and I hope by supporting this fundraiser we can all also have a moment to celebrate some local art, commune with one another, and learn more about Palestine.
There will be bbq plates for sale (vg options), affordable works, and after the exhibition we will screen the film ‘ Jenin, Jenin’ (2002) a Palestinian documentary that explores the varied lives and experiences of Palestinians in a displacement camp.
Ever so grateful to all the artists who contributed and D’shut for being the generous facilitator 🪞
Poster by the especially talented @charlie.rydzewski 🤍
