The V&A East is finally here. I’m sincerely really excited for what I hope this will bring to my home town, not to put all hope in an institution like the this one in particular but I feel excited by the opportunities this brings to a borough like Newham. We’ve never known anything like it.
At the end of the night on Tuesday I bumped into some local mandem who had tried to come in but it was closed and we talked for literally 5 mins about what the event was and the space and they were genuinely intrigued, excited and ready to roll through on Saturday when it opens to the public. One of them asked how I got in - I actually laughed because what do you mean?! But also not no. I said I’m a DJ and they started gassing me up. Anyway, I think that really means something - in that small moment i was reminded it can be perceived as unusual for me to be here but my presence was a relatable face, attitude and energy so we could all feel encouraged in that moment standing outside the V&A East in STRATLANTA of all places.
But Yh I’m glad that I have an incredible library of art and books and also a place to see fab things right on my doorstep!
