Dating apps collect some of our most personal data, from sexual orientation and location to private messages and preferences. As dating apps integrate more AI, the privacy risks become even greater. Companies must step up and protect users, especially people who are already more vulnerable to discrimination, outing, harassment, or abuse. Dating app safety starts with privacy. Check out our latest article, by clicking the links page in our bio. #DatingAppPrivacy #DataPrivacy #PrivacyRights #DigitalRights #AIPrivacy #AlgorithmicBias #LGBTQPrivacy #QueerData #DatingAppData #SurveillanceCapitalism #DataProtection #PrivacyMatters #TechAccountability #OnlineSafety #DataJustice #AIAccountability #PlatformAccountability #ConsentMatters #SensitiveData #ProtectQueerPrivacy

The data breach of Canvas is huge. Hackers stole roughly 6.65 terabytes of data. This includes names, emails, and private messages between students, teachers, and staff. Unfortunately, these kind of breaches are now inevitable. The nature of this kind of technology market is that it is cost-driven, so the companies are incentivised to cuts costs and take risks. We hope that the upcoming Children's Online Privacy Code addresses some of these issues by introducing an obligation on companies to minimise data collection and to allow individuals the right to delete their data.

Have you seen our open letter in The Age today? A recent High Court decision struck down Victoria's unfair political donation laws. Now, seven months out from a state election, there are no donation caps and no legal requirement for parties or candidates to disclose who is funding their campaigns. Victorians deserve to know who is funding their political candidates. We’re calling on all members of Victorian parliament to restore transparency and disclosure immediately, ensure a fair playing field and commit to real reform You can join us for our townhall on Victoria’s political donation laws on Monday 11 May at 4pm. Register now via the link in our bio.

Grateful to have been part of Women Deliver alongside so many powerful voices. As a women-led organisation, it was inspiring to connect, learn, and reflect on how digital rights intersect with gender justice across the world. Thank you for having us, and a special thanks to @minderoofoundation for making it possible. #WomenDeliver #DigitalRights #GenderJustice #TFGBV #changecallsushere

The Albanese government needs to come clean with the Australian people on how it is using Palantir’s software. We deserve to know how much access has been given to millions if not billions of data points on Australian citizens. Palantir’s “Technological Republic” manifesto is a dystopian paean to American exceptionalism, racial discrimination, and gunboat diplomacy. Australian taxpayers should not be funding the dangerous and out-of-touch political ambitions of Peter Thiel and Alex Karp. Out government needs to explain why it is comfortable funding Palantir’s mission against Australian values and our national interest. Palantir is technically just a software company. But their software has obviously-foreseeable uses that are dangerous - from ICE profiling people in migrant communities to foreign security services commandeering the data on which Palantir depends. In this way they are “just” a software company in the same way that Smith & Wesson is “just” a manufacturing company. Trump under-secretary of state Jacob Helberg describes Palantir as “the AI arms dealer of the 21st century”. We need to start treating it like it is.

Ahead of @women_deliver 2026, we’re spotlighting the partners driving real progress for gender equality in Australia.   For the first time in the Oceanic Pacific region, Australia will host Women Deliver, a global convening held every three years to champion and advance gender equality.   These are just some of the 55+ partners who will be in the room, working to accelerate progress at a time when momentum is slowing in many parts of the world.   The convening will bring together global leaders and decision-makers, while showcasing Australia’s strong gender equality sector on a global stage, a sector that has consistently driven progress, can serve as a model for others, and continues to push policy conversations further.   Comment MORE to learn about Women Deliver and how Australia is helping shape what comes next.   And keep an eye out for our partner events taking place next week. #WD2026

Amid a housing crisis and power imbalance, renters feel compelled to hand over extensive personal information. The Privacy Commissioner’s decision shows that this situation must change. #RentTech #DataPrivacy #PrivacyRights #DigitalRights #AusPol

The social media ban has failed on its own terms. Cyberbullying hasn’t dropped, youth mental health hasn’t improved, and young people are still on the apps. What has changed? Australians are being asked to trade away their privacy for age verification tech that doesn’t work. If we’re serious about safety, the focus should be on fixing harmful platform design not banning users. #AgeVerificationFail #SocialMediaBan #PrivacyMatters #DigitalRightsAU #SurveillanceState #DataProtection #OnlineSafetyDebate #PolicyFailure #TechRegulation #YouthOnline #EncryptionMatters #IdentityChecks #DataSecurity #AUSPol #InternetFreedom #FixThePlatforms #NotTheKids #PrivacyOverreach #DigitalIdentity #RightsNotRestrictions
