my message to my fellow smaller artists: keep persisting and making your art
1. art is inherently defiance. being able to ground yourself and remain capable of accessing your deeply human side when apathy becomes more appealing IS action. art inspires more art. you never know how your work will inspire and touch others.
2. the right lacks true vulnerability in their modern art, opting for a preservation of curated, retreaded selves and ideas rather than self-reflection and emotional mining. these actions fuel empathy, while propping up tired archetypes reinforces our current oppressive systems.
3. i believe anyone making art, especially a songwriter, is inherently on the side of humanity, but the biggest artists who could use their massive platforms to inspire real change become insulated from it, scared into shutting up and singing. underground art is always the coolest art. if we continue the upward trajectory of these ideas, it will force the hand of those will the most reach.
i have always been optimistic to a fault, but i think moreso now than ever artists can keep us united. art cannot change laws, but it can change minds and change hearts.
