Koda has 47 days and 69,707’ vert on the season. Vert taken from my watch, so he has substantially more from side questing on tours.
At this point he has found his confidence and doesn’t want to follow tracks anymore, even leading off on steep terrain and jumping off small drops on his own. His stamina far exceeds my own as long as he isn’t wallowing up to his chest in deep pow or isothermal snow.
Two seasons ago I watched a gang of labs send it down the east face of Taylor, which changed my perspective of what terrain dogs can handle. I’m sure this raises some concerns about exposing dogs to risk, but I hope Koda and other rad dogs might inspire people to take their dogs out more and see what that together they can handle more spice/ distance than expected.
Skiing is his favorite activity by far. This winter we created a monster that will be hard to keep in shape and worn out this summer.
