May 8 • World Ovarian Cancer Day 💚 Ovarian cancer symptom often subtle. Easily missed. Persistent bloating, ongoing tummy or pelvic discomfort, feeling full quickly, or needing to urinate more often should not be ignored — especially when symptoms are new, persistent, or unusual for you. Awareness and early attention matter. Listen to your body.

Trying to conceive and wondering why it’s taking longer than expected? This is something we talk about with many patients in clinic, and it’s common for people to feel anxious if pregnancy doesn’t happen quickly. In reality, fertility can take time. 📊 Key facts: • Over 80% of couples will conceive within 1 year if the woman is under 40 and they’re having regular unprotected sex (every 2–3 days) • Of those who don’t conceive in the first year, around half will conceive in the second year (cumulative pregnancy rate over 90%) • Around 1 in 7 couples in the UK experience difficulty conceiving 👩‍⚕️ Fertility challenges can involve either partner. The most common causes include: • Male factors – ~30% • Ovulatory disorders – ~25% • Tubal damage – ~20% • Uterine or pelvic conditions – ~10% • In about 25% of couples, no clear cause is identified 🧪 Initial tests your GP may organise: • Blood tests to check hormone levels and confirm ovulation • Ultrasound scan to assess the ovaries and uterus • Semen analysis to assess sperm count and movement • Screening for infections such as chlamydia 🧬 You may also hear about AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone), a blood test that looks at ovarian reserve. This may be accessed through a private GP fertility/fertility assessment. If you’re concerned about fertility, or have conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, or irregular periods, it’s worth seeking medical advice sooner. We share evidence-based information to help people feel more informed and supported when navigating fertility. @drrubygp @spitalclinic.gp #ttc #tryingtoconceive #womenshealth #fertilityhealth

Cervical screening can feel daunting. However, it should not feel mysterious. A Pap smear is a quick test that checks for early cell changes on the cervix. These changes often link to HPV. Yet here’s the reassuring part: around 90% of HPV infections clear on their own. So, screening helps us spot the small number that need follow-up. The test takes only a few minutes. It may feel uncomfortable. Still, it should not be painful. Most importantly, regular screening helps protect your future health. If you feel nervous, tell us. We will talk you through every step, gently and privately. Book your cervical screening today via the link in bio. #CervicalCancerAwarenessMonth #CervicalScreening #PapSmear #WomensHealth #HPV PreventativeCare PrivateGP LondonClinic HealthCheck EarlyDetection
