I THINK A DARK CIRCLE DEEP DIVE IS DUE!
No two dark circles are created equal, and so there isn’t a ‘one product’ solution here.
And as with most skin problems, its gotta be hit with multiple things to see a change.
Comment below if you’ve found a product that has helped your under eye area, or if you’ve got a question for me about this topic… shall we deep dive?
Tricky one as the mechanism of how hormonal contraception affects acne is complex. But if this has happened to you, there are other options that can help.
Take the pill for acne can give the skin a reprieve or break from the acne, but isn’t a long term cure.
I find that in my experience topical treatments have minimal impact but other oral therapies can help.
An in depth discussion about choices with the doctor is needed

Things that add to the cost of a product :
-ingredient quality- this is obvious, but this is not listed on the ingredients list
- research and development of skincare, some brands spend a lot on this, testing etc is expensive. But good products often have big research and development arm to their production
- packaging, not only how it feels when you pick it up, but also having more sustainable packaging etc or even how long the product lasts in the packaging can be affected by the packaging a brand picks
- sensorial aspects like added fragrance, texture of the product on skin, how it glides on, how it sits under makeup etc…achieving this can all add to cost
Worth also beating in mind: Marketing a product can of course add to cost, so some smaller brands can have incredible sensorial and effective products but cannot afford to market like the bigger more established brands. They can be cheaper but less brand awareness because of this.
That said, cost is not always directly proportional to how effective a product is for an individual.
Bottom line for me, I like both science and sensorial, so I have a mix on my shelf.
If a product feels good, I am more likely to use it.
You decide… what do you think about skincare costs?
I met a friend I haven’t seen in 20 years and she said your skin looks better than in your 20s, what product are you using…
Truth is, it’s never one single step that leads to ‘better’ or healthy skin… am I right or am I right?

1. Check your hair products
Avoid: Heavy oils: coconut oil, mineral oil, castor oil Waxes & pomades: especially those with petrolatum or lanolin Comedogenic ingredients: look for “non-comedogenic” labels if possible
Switch to: Lightweight, non-comedogenic hair serums or gels, Water-based styling products, Products that won’t transfer to the skin
2. Apply hair products carefully Keep oils and pomades off the forehead, temples, and scalp skin near the hairline Use a makeup brush or your fingers to apply with control – avoid slathering all over Apply before bed only if necessary, and if so, tie your hair up to avoid face contact
3. Cleanse your hairline properly Use a gentle cleanser (gel or foaming) that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide a few times a week After applying hair products, wipe your forehead with micellar water or a gentle cleansing pad to remove residue If you wear head coverings, helmets, or scarves, cleanse the area underneath regularly
4. Protect your skin overnight Change pillowcases 2–3x a week — especially if you use hair oils at night Consider wrapping hair in a silk/satin scarf or bonnet to prevent transfer of oils to skin
5. Treat breakouts early Apply a spot treatment with salicylic acid, adapalene, or benzoyl peroxide to the hairline (once daily, max) Use non-comedogenic sunscreen daily – even around the hairline – to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation If persistent, see a GP or derm, especially if it’s nodular or cystic
Hint: it’s highly underrated 🪄 💉
If you guessed it, you’re in the know… and if you didn’t… you’re missing out!!
MICRONEEDLING is by far my fav treatment to offer in clinic. Using your skins own regenerative properties to get results! Literally doesn’t get better than that 🪄
Before you go… did you know these things?
After years of medical practice, you start to recognise that some things matter more than others and so just sharing some things that might help you plan your summer skincare routine 😊
Ps. Washing sweat off after a workout is one that I learnt the hard way 🥺

Are you afraid of your SPF being toxic?
I have had many msgs asking me if sunscreen is bad, and every year I review the evidence, because it’s a huge part of what I do. I tell people to protect their skin by using SPF every day, and so it’s not just important for me from a personal standpoint point but also from a professional perspective.
I now there is a lot of info (validated and not) on social platforms so I thought it’s best to write it down and have it here, and of course open to discussion for all
Do let me know your thoughts ⬇️
