A lighter way to experience the coffee plant.
Beyond flavor, cascara contains polyphenols, including hydroxycinnamic acids such as chlorogenic acids. These compounds are widely studied for their antioxidant activity, helping neutralize reactive molecules produced during normal metabolism.
Cascara also contains a modest amount of naturally occurring caffeine, typically much lower than brewed coffee, providing a gentle lift without the jitters that some people experience with coffee.
So… what is cascara?
It comes from the coffee cherry. Usually the coffee bean gets the spotlight and the outer fruit is tossed aside. Cascara is the dried fruit.
And no, it doesn’t taste like coffee.
It’s a little fruity, lightly tart and earthy in a way that feels familiar but hard to pin down. One of those flavors that make you pause for a second and wonder what you are tasting🧐
