NOT JUST A PERIOD🩸
✨PRE-ORDER TODAY✨
It’s been so hard to keep this a secret…
When I wrote The Female Factor my aim was to raise awareness and change the narrative around women’s health. For too long, women have been viewed as ‘small men,’ and I wanted to highlight the unique and powerful ways women experience health and well-being.I hoped this book would be a solution, and while it has helped many, it’s also sparked a much bigger conversation about the real challenges in menstrual health.
Since its publication in 2022, my inbox has been flooded with messages from women sharing stories of debilitating cycle symptoms and the disappointment of being dismissed by healthcare professionals with the all-too-common phrase, ‘it’s just a period.’
In recent years, we’ve seen a huge drive to raise awareness around menopause, which has been incredible to witness! Yet we still lack the same level of support and understanding around living happily with our cycles each month, instead of merely surviving them.
So I wanted to create a book — an essential guide — bringing together research, community-driven surveys, case studies and research-backed lifestyle practices, so you can feel empowered in optimising your own health at every stage of your cycle 🙌
A huge HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed to and worked on this book and to my publishers @booksbybluebird for bringing it to life 🥹
Out May 2025.

PCOS is officially being renamed PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) 📰
And it’s is a pretty big moment in women’s health!! 😮💨
Of course, a name change won’t fix delayed diagnoses, gaps in care, or misinformation overnight, but the goal is to help improve awareness, research, diagnosis, and more holistic support for the millions of us affected.
Drop a little 👋 if you’d like me to share more information on nutrition, lifestyle, symptom management and long-term health with PMOS/PCOS !!

PCOS has officially been renamed to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) 🗞️
and as a doctor living with it, here’s how I feel about the change 👀
For years, the term PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) has caused confusion because not everyone with PCOS have “cysts” and having polycystic ovaries doesn’t necessarily mean you have PCOS. The old name also doesn’t fully capture the hormonal, metabolic, and whole-body nature of the condition, including insulin resistance and the long-term health implications that can come with it 🫀
So in many ways, PMOS is a more accurate and inclusive reflection of what this condition actually is and as someone living with PCOS, I feel grateful (& relieved) to see it finally recognised as a whole-body condition, rather than being reduced to just the ovaries or fertility 🥹 Hopefully this shift helps improve understanding, research and the care women receive.
At the same time, it’s taken years to build awareness around the term PCOS, so some confusion is inevitable initially, especially for people newly diagnosed or searching for information and support ♥️ For those of us who have lived with the term PCOS for years, it also might feel a little strange and unfamiliar to let the name go.
It’s important to know that not much will change overnight. Your symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options remain the same, and there will be a transition period where both names are used alongside each other while healthcare systems, guidelines and education catch up 🫶
Overall I think this is the right step and a positive step in the right direction but I would love to know how you feel about the name change? 💬

My running journey ✨
ad If you told 2022 Hazel that we’d be running marathons (!!), she would’ve been shook 🥹
I vividly remember doing my first (and only) Hyrox in April 2022 and really struggling with the running element because it’s something I didn’t think I was very good at, but also something I’d never really given a proper chance.
A year later, I downloaded @runna , and since then I’ve trained for 8 half marathons and 4 marathons using their plans and it’s honestly changed my life!! I was always a runner, I just didn’t see it yet and I can’t imagine my life without running now.

Yep, your menstrual cycle can change how you see yourself 🙃
So no, you’re not going crazy if you feel like you get the “luteal uglies” but chances are, your body hasn’t actually changed that much.
Across the menstrual cycle, body image can fluctuate. For example, around ovulation, we tend to feel more confident and less self critical, but in the days before your period (the luteal phase) it’s common to focus more on perceived “flaws”, feel uncomfortable in your body, and be harder on yourself🪞
Research shows we can feel like we look worse even when there are no measurable changes in our bodies. That said, sometimes there are physical changes (like bloating or water retention), but often the biggest shift is in how we perceive ourselves 🫶
Which is exactly why working on body image matters, because hen we improve our relationship with our bodies, we’re more likely to have a better experience of our cycle too 🙌
