With a gently unfolding poetic narration that weaves together intergenerational legends of the Merwede River, the film mobilizes archival footage across multiple registers. The sensory qualities embedded in its materiality—together with the intimate viewpoints and emotional memories carried by family footage—at moments grow estranged and distant, as they are refracted through the filmmaker’s dual perspective as both author and viewer. In this shifting dynamic, the archival images become raw material for speculation and conceptualization. Through a lyrical, essayistic voice and an anthropological sensitivity to the materials at hand, the filmmaker explores her evolving relationship to the archives she gathers and reanimates, seeking a narrative mode—and a calibrated distance—capable of sustaining the stories she hopes to set back in motion. （TANG Hongfeng）

The film carries a classically experimental spirit: intimate, ecological in scale, direct in its approach, yet constantly pushing the edges of the visible—stretching time, bending form. Its attention is directed toward the open, understood as a terrain where encounters with the unusual, the dreamlike, and the non-anthropocentric take shape. Ground Level Cinema Vol.6で新作を上映いたします。
Ground Level Cinema は、東京イメージフォーラムの卒業生を中心に結成され、日本と台湾で活動する映像作家の新作を発表しています。今年で6年目を迎える本上映会では、個人と自主、そして実験映画を中心とした33作品の新作が5つのプログラムに分かれて東京と台北で同時上映されます。
私の新作は、11月22日（土）17:20 と、23日（日）12:00 に上映されます。よろしくお願いいたします。
I’ll be presenting my new work at Ground Level Cinema Vol. 6. Ground Level Cinema was founded by graduates of the Image Forum in Tokyo, and features new works by filmmakers active in Japan and Taiwan. Now in its sixth year, this screening program features 33 new works centered on independent and experimental cinema, divided into five programs and presented simultaneously in Tokyo and Taipei.
My film will be shown on November 22 (Sat) at 17:20 and November 23 (Sun) at 12:00.
그라운드레벨시네마 Vol.6에서 신작 상영합니다. 그라운드레벨시네마는 도쿄 이미지 포럼 졸업생을 중심으로 결성되어, 일본과 대만에서 활동하는 영상작가의 신작을 발표하고 있습니다. 올해로 6년째를 맞이한 본 상영회는 개인과 자주 그리고 실험영화를 중심으로 한 33편의 신작이 5프로그램으로 나뉘어 도쿄와 타이페이에서 동시 상영됩니다. 제 신작은 11월 22일(토) 17:20, 23일 (일) 12:00에 상영됩니다.

문학 실험 프로젝트 <우리가 아닌 모두에게>에 번역으로 참가했습니다. 모국어가 외국어로 변화할 때 필연적으로 드러나는 아쉬움과 함께 시를 번역하는 일은 언제나 낯설고 재밌습니다. 본 전시의 의도와 문학이 호기롭게 제시할 수 있는 가능성은 멀지 않은 도처에 있는 듯합니다. 시의 시지각적인 표현과 더불어 듣고 말하고 움직이고 만질 수 있는 시세계가 더욱 늘어나길 소망합니다.
I participated in the literary experiment project <To All Beyond Us>with a translation. Translating poetry always feels both unfamiliar and fascinating, accompanied by the inevitable sense of loss that occurs when one’s native language transforms into another. The intentions of this exhibition and the possibilities that literature can boldly propose seem to exist all around us and not distant. I hope that, along with the visual-perceptual expressions of poetry, the world of poetry that can be heard, spoken, moved, and touched will continue to expand.

문학 실험 프로젝트 ❬우리가 아닌 모두에게❭는 참여 시인 4인의 신작시를 점역(點譯)하고 영상화하여 시로써 가능한 ‘다감각(多感覺)’을 실험합니다. 그간 읽기의 방식으로만 향유되어 온 시를 다양한 감각으로 감상할 수 있도록 낭독 영상과 점자 시집으로 선보입니다. 시가 들리고, 움직이고, 만져지는 경험을 통해 장애와 비장애의 경계 너머 새로운 문학 독자들을 만나고자 합니다. 문학은 비장애 인간만을 위한 것이 아니라 모두의 예술이 되어야 한다는 지향점을 두고, 시 텍스트를 점자와 묵자, 영상과 오디오 등의 매체로 전달하여 작품의 접근도를 낮추고 다양한 독자들과 소통하는 문학예술을 실현하고자 합니다.

『The Opposite of Tadashii is Left』, has been officially selected for the International Competition at the 9th Beijing International Short Film Festival (BISFF 2025).
As one of the largest short film festivals in Asia, BISFF 2025 will be held from November 8 to 16, 2025, presenting 331 short and mid-length films across both competitive and non-competitive sections.
The International Competition features 75 films from over 35 countries, screened at venues such as Lumiere Pavilions Cinema, Hey Town Art Center, and the Institut français.
『The Opposite of Tadashii is Left』 will be screened on November 14 and 15 at Hey Town Art Center. Once again, sincerely thank you.

『正しいの反対は左』が、第9回北京国際短編映画祭の国際コンペティション部門に選ばれました。
アジア最大の短編映画祭の一つであるBISFF 2025は、2025年11月8日から16日まで開催され、コンペティションおよび非コンペティション部門にわたり、331本の短編および中編映画が上映される予定です。
国際コンペティション部門では、35か国以上から選ばれた75本の作品が、Lumiere Pavilions Cinema、Hey Town Art Center、Institut françaisなどで上映されます。
『正しいの反対は左』は、14日と15日にHey Town Art Centerで上映されます。改めて本当にありがとうございます。

『The Opposite of Tadashii is Left』has been selected for the East Asian Competition at the 39th Image Forum Festival. It will be screened in Program C in Tokyo on September 27 at 18:30 and on October 2 at 16:00. The film will also be shown in Kyoto and Nagoya. The festival runs from September 27 to October 3. There are a variety of programs, so if you are in Tokyo, please come and see them!

백귀야행의 메인 아카이브로서, 시・영상・번역을 넘나들며 활동하는 작가 용하 제임스 황(Yongha James Hwang)의 영상 작품을 공개합니다. 더고스트프로젝트와 콜드슬립은 각자 상이한 것을 경험하는 시공간에서 객관적 아카이브가 가능한가 하는 질문과 함께, 개인의 기억을 아카이브로서 제안합니다.
용하 제임스 황은 백귀야행 동안 함께 자고 머물며 이를 기록하였습니다. 불안정하게 부유하는 카메라의 시선은 백귀야행에 속하지도, 벗어나지도 않으며 주변을 맴돕니다. 마치 오래 전부터 호텔에 머무른 101번째 고스트처럼요.
영상에는 일어, 영어, 한국어, 동물들의 소리, 고스트의 진동과 기척이 뒤섞여 있습니다. 그중 어느 하나쯤 들리지 않을 수도 있겠지요. 외국어는 어쩌면 하나의 유령어이고, 아니 전달되지 않는 모국어조차 마찬가지로, 언어 자체가 유령일지도 모릅니다. 그리고 그러한 현실의 유령에게는 자막이 없겠지요.
百鬼夜行のメインアーカイブとして、詩・映像・翻訳を横断しながら活動するヨンハ・ジェイムズ・ファンのビデオ作品を公開します。the ghost projectとkoldsleepは、「お互いに異なる経験をする時空間において、客観的なアーカイブは果たして可能なのか？」という質問とともに、個人の記憶をアーカイブとして提案します。
ファンは、《百鬼夜行》の間、アーティストたちと共に過ごし、ビデオとしてそれを記録しました。不安定に漂うカメラは、百鬼夜行の内側に属しているわけでも、外側へ完全に外れているわけでもない、まるで昔からホテルに棲みついていた101目のゴーストのように、その周りをさまよいます。
映像には、日本語、英語、韓国語、動物の声、ゴーストの振動や気配が入り混じっています。そのうちの一つくらいは聞こえないのかもしれません。外国語はある意味「ゴースト語」なのかもしれませんし、あるいは伝わらない母語すら同じく、言語そのものが幽霊なのかもしれません。そして、そうした現実のゴーストには字幕が存在しないのでしょう。
As our main archive for 100 𝘬𝘪𝘺𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘶, we present the video of Yongha James Hwang who works across poetry, film, and translation. Alongside 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝑔𝒽𝑜𝓈𝓉 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝒿𝑒𝒸𝓉 and 𝙠𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙨𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥, we pose the question: “In a spatiotemporal setting where each participant undergoes a unique experience, can an objective archive truly exist?” We also propose that memory, centered on personal experience, itself can function as an archive.
During 100 kiyakou, Hwang stayed and slept alongside the artists, documenting everything on video. His camera’s unsteady, drifting gaze neither fully belongs inside the event nor stands wholly apart from it. It lingers at the edges, much like a 101st ghost who has long haunted the hotel corridors.
In the video, Japanese, English, Korean, various animal sounds, and the vibrations and presence of ghosts all intermingle. Perhaps at least one of them eludes our ears. Foreign languages may well be “ghost languages,” or maybe even an unspoken mother tongue is just as spectral—language itself might be a ghost. And no subtitles exist for these ghosts in reality.
