There is a ghost on the plains...
I have always thought the Ralph McQuarrie concept art Fett helmet to be pretty unsettling. Something about the shape of the visor and the mouthparts hits the uncanny valley pretty hard. I love horror movies and have wanted more ghost stories in Star Wars, so when @jtmprops and @drexlnotimo collaborated on a limited run of resin cast helmets, I knew I had to get one. I jumped on an opportunity to get a pretty wild B-cast with a ton of crazing in the surface - which looked *just* like bone fissures. The cast had some really thin walls in places which were cut out and backed with aluminum sheet. The backstory developed pretty rapidly: a cursed relic encased in a bone-like ceramic over Beskar alloy, left to rot in the sands, or be found by some unwitting traveler.
Painted this in Citadel Wraithbone (duh) and a series of alcohol ink dilutions sprayed with a misting bottle and Vallejo grime streak solutions. Metals were heavily weathered with Citadel and @goblinshut FX paints.
Super proud of this one - it was a really fun one-off. Major thanks to @jtmprops and @drexlnotimo for making it happen!

Durge vs obiwan
After collaborating with @drexlnotimo to design his idealized take on durge we wanted to do something to kind of “field test” the look. We settled on the moment durge and obiwan were gunning for each other with the Lances.
It also offered thr opportunity to incorporate @ec_henry ‘s clone speederbike design (with his permission) as well as various Hasbro figure references for Durge’s bike and lance.
"Remember- No survivors."
Thought I'd throw together a little edit for this #mandomonday from my most recent soft goods test. Things are looking good, and its nice to be back on track with my kit. After some suggestions from the community I've gotten myself a set of suspenders for keeping my soft parts together, and will likely use some pins and velcro to keep my belts and attachments in place.

Durge Redesign @drexlnotimo
Ian wanted to begin with Rayvis from Jedi Survivor as a base, as he is the most modern example for the Gen’Dai species. We wanted to strip away all that makes that character look so stately and replace it with some good ol’ fashioned grime and grit befitting a centuries old bounty hunter. Durge is to be to Rayvis visually what Boba is to Jango. Ian sent me a lot of his own concept sketches based on various used and unused Rayvis concept artwork to use as a jumping off point. From there I began making some tweaks to help sell the “likeness” to his 03 Clone Wars and Republic comic, and even Hasbro toy appearances. We went through a few rounds of iteration to lock in our favorite elements of each design for instance, we extended his neck much longer than Rayvis is depicted having in fallen order since it was such a defining feature in Durge’s early appearances. His face originally was also far closer to Rayvis in the beginning however we later changed our mind and decided to attempt to bring in more of the monster like eyes and mandibles from his comic appearance. It became easier to lock in the face details once we found the Gendai in the old republic game seeing it as bridging the gap pretty successfully between the 03 and modern look. We also wanted to make sure to include more of the almost embryonic flesh tones from the 03 appearance. We borrowed the rest of the basic proportions from Ravis, but wanted to make sure that the armor itself felt more pieces together, and may’ve a bit less curated. Bringing in more leather elements, and introducing gaps between the armor plates really helped to sell that effect. From there, we took a lot of inspiration from the republic comics design to figure out the legs and arms, making sure they were fitted with hydraulic components. And a lot of the paint job and Jetpack comes from his (rather human proportioned) Hasbro figure.

Another happy Mando Monday. I wanted to share with you all a closer look at my new helmet, The Mercenary, courtesy of @jtmprops
The work that went into ensuring this model was a fitting homage to the original design was extensive, so I knew that the task of creating an equally accurate paint job for this helmet was a task I needed to approach with the upmost diligence. I experimented with a variety of new paint products and application styles, but I am quite pleased with the results.
I also had to tackle any gaps in my references by scouring the web for other fitting source material, taking an extra bit of inspiration from the mysterious Banzai helmet for physical damage and the PP2 helmet for paint layering and color variation.
There is still more to do, and I have a few more pieces to finish before I can share the full suit, but please enjoy, and do let me know if you have any thoughts on this project.

First Mando Monday of 2025. I know, I'm joining the party a little late this year, but I've spent a lot of time practicing new painting techniques and working with new mediums. Progress has been slow, and the weather has not wanted to cooperate throughout most of this past summer, but progress is still progress. There is plenty more to see and plenty more to do, but I'm quite happy with what I have. Something about that trailer released today has revitalized my mando mania, and I look forward to finishing the new kit soon. This is the way.

Happy #mandomonday everybody! Seeing everyone's year in review has me feeling nostalgic. Unfortunately I didn't get nearly as much done costuming this year as I may have liked to, but I've still enjoyed everything I've done and the progress I've made with my helmet casts and improving my maker space. And while I love looking back at pictures of my first kit, I think it's time to move on or change. I still love the character I've created, but I'm not certain I'll revisit this look for some time. Here's to 2025, and to making a better mando. ♥️

Aaaaaaaaaand we're back! Sorry for the exceedingly long hiatus, folks, but I had some cooking to do. It's far from perfect, but I'd like to present my very first resin cast! After I shared my first reel, the PLA helmet I used in the video melted out in the sunlight as my topcoat was curing. I was positively beside myself because I was so close to finishing that helmet.
So, after a good break from costuming, I came back and decided to try some new techniques, go new directions, and push myself in ways I never had. While I will still need to perfect my process to improve the final product, I do plan to offer some casts in the near future, so let me know if you're interested! That, and if you have any tips for someone new to resin casting, please don't hesitate to reach out! Thanks everyone, it's great to be back! ♥️

I took my first steps into a larger world today. After a lot of unnecessary nervous deliberation, I went out and purchased my first airbrush today. I don't know why pulling the trigger on this was so incredibly daunting, but I suppose it was probably some deep-rooted fear telling me that there was no way I could possibly be good enough to consider airbrushing. In any case, afraid or not, I'm here, and dank ferrik am I gonna give this my best. I've had a lot of help from the community leading up to this moment, and I can't thank you all enough for your suggestions and advice. Most of my kit is primed in black and ready for clear coating, so let's see what happens. Happy ##wipwednesday, everybody.

Happy #fettfriday y'all!
I've just now finished insulating my workshed and am moving on to spring cleaning, so hopefully I can get my airbrush and paint booth on order soon. Today, I've just been gluing magnets, sanding, and priming, but progress is progress!
Once I've got my paint booth up and running, I'm hoping I can get everything that needs finishing painted and repainted by late spring. Would anyone recommend any particular Midwestern comic cons for me to debut the new kit at? I've not been to a Comic Con of any sort in over a decade, and I'm a little nervous about hitting the convention floor again!

Happy 2024, everybody! This is my first Mando Monday of the new year. I just thought I'd throw together a little update for y'all. I am still making progress with my updated helmet, and now that it's really coming together, I've got the urge to completely revamp the rest of my kit with a shiny new Duralumin paint job. However, since I've no proper space to spray paint in this frigid Missouri weather, I'm going to need to do some work to insulate my humble little workshed and set up a ventilated paint booth. It will take a good amount of time and money to do, so you probably won't be seeing too many updates from me during these cold months.
That being said! I've put a Ko-Fi link in my bio, so if any one of you is able to support me in expediting the improvements to my setup, it would be greatly appreciated! It is my hope to begin taking paint or at very least print prepping commissions this year in some capacity, and I want to get that ball rolling as soon as I can. Your support both on my posts and through encouragement and advice are the only reason I was able to put together this costume in the first place, and I hope to never stop learning and growing as a member of this wonderful community.
Happy WIP Wednesday, everybody! The weather outside is frightful, but the cosplans are so delightful! My new and vastly improved helmet (modeled by the one and only @jake.the.maker ) arrived the other day, and as you can see I've wasted no time getting it ready for paint, whenever it's nice enough outside for me to paint again! Working on this helmet has made it plain just how much I've improved since starting my journey as a maker last year, so much so that I'm hoping to have not one, but TWO Star Wars cosplays in my lineup!
As you can see, next up on the cosplay list is none other than the fearsome Gen'Dai Durge! I'm hoping to stay as true to the 2003 Tartakovsky appearance as possible, but I'll be pulling from a few other looks from his new Comic appearance, Rayvis' armor from Jedi: Survivor, and a few artist renditions from here on the 'gram for the sake of realism and wearability.
