I am very late on posting this (like 2 whole months late) but I want to give a massive thank you to the incredible dancers I got to work on this project with. You both brought so much emotion and passion to the project, taught me so much during this process and helped me find the courage to begin telling this story. Im so glad i got to meet and get to know yall through this!š
Thank you again to @gladedance and @atlaspacdc and the NACHMO DC adjudicators for the opportunity to present this work a second time with all of the valuable feedback in mind. Thank you for the inspiration to keep working and keep digging further into this idea.
More info about the piece and its themes below and if anyone has any thoughts feelings or ideas I would love to hear them! Thank you for watching!
"Limerence and Lexapro" wields the ethereal intimacy of Radiohead's "Nude" to explore the paradoxical emotions of fearing and yearning for intimacy in the wake of childhood sexual trauma. Drawing upon the music's quiet intensity to create movement emblematic of the healing process,
the work showcases the tumultuous push forward to find the strength to love yourself once again, and open your heart, soul and body to another. Through soft movement, minimalism, and contrast, I aim to tell a story of fighting with limerence, unlearning my defense mechanism of emotional blunting, while searching for a neural pathway between hopeless obsession, and artificial apathy.

As I head into a new decade, it feels fated and fitting to start a new life chapter. I am immensely ecstatic to say Iāll be pursuing my MFA in Dance at the University of Maryland starting this fall! Ecstatic, but also a wee bit spooked, scared, gobsmacked, etc etc.
I am tremendously humbled by this opportunity and I cannot express my gratitude enough to the people who have supported me up to this point and to the people who will support me in the future. In particular, I want to shout out @kellsoverlook , @thelaurendevera , and @orangegrovedance . Thank you for your mentorship, guidance, and compassion. Yāall mean the world to me.
The Drew in this silly little video was also at the precipice of a new decade and a new chapter. This Drew was at the end of their first year of undergrad and ~dancing~ for the first time. This Drew was finally starting to come into their own and about to dig into something thatāll become an artistic love, a movement practice, an academic interest, and a tool for research. This Drew was finding something that will become intrinsic to their existence and identity.
This Drew would be proud of me. Current Drew is proud of me. And Future Drew will be proud of me too. It has been a long time coming, thatās for sure. There have been quite some valleys in my twenties, though Iām choosing to celebrate the hills I climbed after to get myself out of those lows. I am so thankful for the love and support I have around me, and I know the universe has so much in store for all of us. My birthday wish? Be kind to yourself today.
Happy Taurus season! š¹š«°š¼
