‘Prayers & Violence’ - DAY 7 (July 24’) a 1 of 1 piece created for my Trials & Errors Exhibition (12/12/24)
“This piece is dedicated to my six siblings—seven, including myself.
I knew stepping into this month that I was creating it for them.
One of my hardest Days, I had to reach into a part of myself
that healing doesn’t seem to fully close—
a place that still feels like an eternally open wound.
The dual nature of family:
the beauty of belonging, and the burden that comes with it.
You can’t receive a familial blessing
without also carrying the generational curses
woven into it by flawed, but faithful ancestors.
This doesn’t reflect everything we are—
just a part shaped by silence, conflict, tension, and time.
And yet, with grace, I’ve learned to love what remains unresolved.
I continue to place things where they belong.
I continue to choose love.“
Every image used was taken while on a family trip to Niagara Falls at the beginning of July, my relationship to them has never been healthier so I feel like sharing this intimate work after a year now is fitting.
