These twins looked exactly the same, but smelled totally different: one had body odor and the other didn't. So I proposed a crazy idea… And it worked! We were able to solve his BO. Since then, I've helped hundreds of people shift their armpit microbiome to get rid of their BO for good. And I plan to help thousands more. — I’m Dr Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr Armpit because I did a PhD in body odor and have stuck my nose under 1000+ armpits. My goal in life is to find a permanent solution for BO and help people understand what their smell is communicating. I share everything about body odor and the skin microbiome, my research and actionable steps you can take to improve your smell. If that sounds interesting to you, please consider following! And drop your BO questions below. #microbiome #skinmicrobiome #bacteria #sciencetok #didyouknow #bodyodor

It all started when I learned about gut microbiome transplants… Several clinical trials later, I’ve helped hundreds of people shift their microbiome to solve their body odor for good. In 2020, I trained dogs to detect COVID from armpit sweat. They were 95% accurate and could detect it before the PCR tests could. COVID creates subtle VOCs in sweat: metallic toluene (oxidative stress), chemical 2-butanone (altered metabolism), waxy 2-octanol, mushroom-like 1-octen-3-ol, fatty octadecyl acetate. Humans can't smell the difference, but dogs can. — I’m Dr Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr Armpit because I did a PhD in body odor and have stuck my nose under 1000+ armpits. In 2012, two identical twins changed my career. They looked exactly the same, but they smelled totally different. One had chronic body odor and the other didn't. So I transplanted armpit bacteria from the odor-free twin to his brother. And the smell vanished. That first success launched everything I do today. Since then, I've helped hundreds of people solve their BO for good and have analyzed thousands of armpit microbiomes. — I’m Dr Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr Armpit because I did a PhD in body odor and have stuck my nose under 1000+ armpits. I got a phone call out of the blue: “We want to detect COVID from armpit sweat” It was a crazy idea. But for me, the crazier, the better. And the dog who had 100% efficiency in detecting the samples was named Lily. — I’m Dr Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr Armpit because I did a PhD in body odor and have stuck my nose under 1000+ armpits. And since then, I’ve helped hundreds of people solve their body odor by treating the microbiome instead of only the symptoms (like the sweat or the smell) We also identified the bacterium responsible for the bad smell. The main culprit is Corynebacterium, though there are others that cause specific foul odors. An DIY solution you can try is applying lemon juice to the armpits, once or twice per day. Either using a cotton pad or directly from the lemon! Many in this community have tried it for mild to strong BO and seen results in only 7 days! The acid helps lower the pH and creates an environment that favors Staph epidermidis and is adverse for Corynebacterium. Apple cider vinegar also works. — I’m Dr Chris Callewaert, also known as Dr Armpit because I did a PhD in body odor and have stuck my nose under 1000+ armpits. The science behind body odor has advanced significantly over the past decade, and there's an opportunity to bring more of it into clinical practice. It's not just about reducing perspiration. The interaction between sweat, bacteria, fabrics, and hygiene practices creates a complex system that most aren't aware of. That's why I'm hosting a webinar next Thursday, April 23, at 9:00 AM PST / 5:00 PM CET: "Beyond Sweat: The Hidden Science of Body Odor." What I’ll cover: - How bacteria interact with sweat to produce malodorous compounds - The impact of deodorant and antiperspirant use - The impact of hormones on body odor - All other things that are impacting body odor This webinar is part of @miradry 's Odor Awareness Week initiative. I'm grateful to the team for organizing this educational opportunity. If you work with patients dealing with body odor or hyperhidrosis, or are just curious to learn more about the science, I hope you'll join. You can register by visiting: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_yA-XxF0oR5mqQjAICmlL9Q#/registration Or comment “WEBINAR” or "BODY ODOR" if you want me to send the link directly!

I’m a body odor scientist with 15 years of experience, and in my research and clinical trials, I’ve found that: - Body odor is caused by a certain type of bad bacteria (Corynebacterium) - They are more resistant than our good bacteria (Staph epidermidis), and prefer a higher pH - So when applying antimicrobials (antiperspirants have a very strong antibacterial effect), the good bacteria die and BAD ones survive and take over The products made to help with body odor end up making the problem worse. I’ve found that a good alternative to antiperspirants and deodorants is lemon juice, because the acid lowers the pH, favoring good bacteria that cause no smell. Many in this community have tried it and seen big improvements in just 7 days. If you have any questions about body odor or the skin microbiome, leave a comment! I’ll be happy to answer.

The tip about your clothes (n°4) is a game-changer. It’s about working with your microbiome instead of just using deodorant. #bodyodor #healthtips #sciencetok #naturalremedies #holistichealth

The real reason you smell isn't just sweat, and understanding that is essential to solve bad body odor. I had a wonderful conversation with Dr. Samantha Yammine (@science.sam ) for the Curiosity Weekly podcast. Go listen to the full episode to learn about the science of BO, tips to solve it, what smell can say about you, and what this has to do with mosquitoes. #microbiome #bodyodor #smell #sweat

Sorry to say your blood isn't sweet, and the reason mosquitoes love you might surprise you. We are doing a big project in Europe where we're trying to use this to prevent mosquito bites!
