she said what she said!! We’re astronomically beautiful 💅🏼 #science #artemis #space #affirmations Ps. Note I took creative liberties with the star animations in the background, but the view of the Earth from Orion is real! Audio clip from early this morning via the NASA live feed.

🔬The WINNERS of this year’s @nikoninstruments Small World in Motion Competition!! I’ve been so excited to share these with you. It was so fun (but so challenging!!!) to narrow these down from 370 entries from over 40 countries. Which ones do you wanna learn more about? ——— All videos courtesy of Nikon Small World. Captions, in order of appearance: 🔬Mitosis waves in the embryo or a fruit fly by Dr. Bruno Vellutini 🔬Water droplets evaporating from the wing scales of a peacock butterfly by Jay McClellan 🔬An oligodendrocyte precursor cell in the spinal cord of a zebrafish 🔬Friction transition in a microtubule-based active liquid crystal 🔬A baby tardigrade riding a nematode #science #scicomm #microscope #microscopy #biology #art

next time you look in the mirror, heed this microscopic reminder🪞 Had to adapt this photography trend for some microscopy photos to spread some good vibes through biology 🔬 Our cells aren’t actually these colours in our bodies, but we often use techniques to colour cells in our research to identify or see different features of cells. And sometimes just to make science art! Cells shown: ☀️ Coloured standard electron micrograph of a natural killer cell, a type of immune cell (source: @alleninstitute ) 🎨Heart muscle cells, specifically striated muscle fibres of heart myocardium stained with phosphotungstic hematoxylin (source: Getty) 🌳 Confocal microscope image of neurons in the cerebellum called Purkinje cells (source: Wikimedia Commons) 🌊 Coloured scanning electron micrograph of fat cells, also called adipocytes (source: Science Photo Library) #science #scicomm #sciart #microscope #microscopy #photographytrends

What the crew wants from all of us 🫶🏼 After thanking them profusely on behalf of all of us Moon Joyers (dw I won’t make you watch me gushing 😅), my first question was how we can best honour their legacy and show our gratitude for what they did. #MoonJoy #ArtemisII #astronaut #science

A moment for the women of the Artemis II crew!!!!! (& Rise!!!) Lots more coming with everyone (we love our Artemis II guys!!!), but Christina & Jenni have always held a special place in my heart and I’m so honoured I got to tell them both that face to face. #astronaut #womeninstem #astronaut #MoonJoy #ArtemisII

WHAT AN HONOUR 😭😭 Interviewing the #ArtemisII crew was a career high I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top!!!! Unsurprisingly, they shared the most perfect words and had me feeling so grateful to be alive on our beautiful planet. I can’t wait to share the videos with you!! Expect nothing but #MoonJoy for the next little bit 🤭 Thank you to the @canadianspaceagency for giving me this tremendous opportunity. And thank YOU all for sharing your funny & insightful questions! I tried to cover as much ground as I could in the time I had but, most importantly, I wanted to let them know how grateful we all are for the way they shared their science and humanity with such, well… integrity!! No better word, honestly. PS. RISE WAS THERE TOO 😭😭😭 I got to hold him!!!!!! He was heavier than expected!!!? #space #spaceexploration #astronaut

*SCREAMS IN MOON JOY* 😭😭 This is the biggest honour ever and I have been working round the clock to prep so I can make the most of it. This opportunity is truly thanks to you all for joining me in Moon Joy last month, so please drop your questions, compliments and well wishes for the #ArtemisII crew below so I can relay it to them as best I can! Mega shout outs to the @canadianspaceagency for making this happen and always supporting science communicators in Canada 🙏🏼 LOVE YALL SEE YOU SOON!!! #science #artemis #astronauts

Healthcare is one of the areas where I have a lot of optimism around AI tools. But the wins aren’t where you might expect! I interviewed Dr. @radkottler for our latest episode of the Curiosity Weekly podcast for @discovery go learn more. She’s a renowned radiologist, the Chief Medical Officer for Mosaic Clinical Technologies, and an Associate Fellow at the @stanfordaimi . Radiology has been on the leading edge of AI in medicine for the last decade. Though things haven’t exactly gone how early tech advocates predicted. During our conversation, Dr. Kottler shared her vision for how AI tools can actually improve healthcare for both workers and patients. Listen to the full interview wherever you get your podcasts to learn more - she was a fantastic guest. #science #healthcare #medicine #radiology #aihealthcare

If you’re feeling anxious, here’s a step-by-step of the key events for today’s splashdown 🌎🛰️🌖 This isn’t the typical splashdown we see more often from low Earth orbit, but rhe weather at the landing site is looking good, recovery crews are ready, and the crew and technical teams on the ground are feeling confident. Tune into NASA’s live mission coverage for the latest updates, and join me in wishing our beloved crew the best of vibes for a safe and comfy return home 🫶🏼 BTW: All info, animations and graphics courtesy of NASA (I annotated the animations and sped them up etc). I cross-checked all the numbers from their latest mission blog updated yesterday with today’s announcements over the livestream, and went with the latter where there was discrepancy so the info was as up to date as possible. Details subject to change but I’ll pin any major updates in the comments. LIVE UPDATES: Peak speed currently projected to be reached at 7:54pm ET. It’s now tracking to be 24,661.21mph (Mach 33 or 39,688 km/h) #science #artemisii #splashdown #nasa

THEY’RE COMING HOME TODAY!! 🫶🏼🙏🏼🧿 schedule below ⬇️ NASA’s coverage remains continuous on their livestream but the official splashdown-focused programming starts at 6:30pm ET today, Friday April 10. Our beloved crew is projected to splashdown off the coast of San Diego at 8:07pm ET. Here’s a bit of what to expect (note: all timing in Eastern Time and based on NASA’s latest projections — it’s subject to change!): 🌖2:53pm: third trajectory correction burn 🌖6:30pm: NASA’s Coverage begins 🌖7:33pm: Orion’s service module separates from the crew module 🌖7:37pm: final trajectory adjustment burn to distance crew from separating hardware 🌖7:53pm: 6-min communication blackout as crew reaches maximum velocity at approximately 23,864 mph (38,405 km/h) and plasma forms around the capsule. The crew is expected to experience up to 3.9 Gs in a nominal landing profile. 🌖8:03pm: drogue parachutes deploy near 22,000 feet (6.7km) 🌖8:04pm: three main parachutes unfurl around 6,000 feet (1.8km) to slow the capsule 🌖8:07pm: splashdown in the Pacific 🌖Recovery: not immediate! The crew will be busy inside the capsule and recovery crews will make their way over to them. Expect this process to take anywhere from 1-2 hours I’ll be watching live - tune in on NASA’s YouTube and join me in wishing our crew the safest of travels back home 🫶🏼 #science #artemisii #splashdown #nasa
