On Friday we said goodbye to the absolute legend that is Laura Hardy 💛
After 12 incredible years, Laura is starting a brand new adventure and leaving Smart. She’s been such a huge part of building our charity into what it is today, making a real lasting difference across our community and touching so many lives along the way.
There have been so many moments of laughter, challenges, growth, and everything in between and we’ve shared them all together. It truly has been an epic journey.
Laura, you will be so deeply missed by all of us, but we are so proud of you and excited for what’s next.
Wishing you all the love and luck in your new role it’s going to be amazing just like you ✨
Last week was our lovely volunteer @aniseedtwist had her last day with us for a while whilst she packs up to go and live on a narrow boat for a few months ! She will be missed but we wish her all the best ok her exciting adventures 💖
NEW SATURDAY CLUB TIMES STARTS THIS WEEK ! We will now be running our Saturday Club 1pm - 3pm at the gallery. It is a free community art group open to all over the age of 14. If you have any questions or want to know more about the group please drop us a message !
Last week some of our lovely group members visited @turnercontemporary , where photos of our Art of Age sessions.
Local photographer @rosswheatleyphoto captured our sessions as part of the Community in Focus Competition, celebrating community groups across Kent and Medway.
The image is described as "a joyful reminder that art, laughter, and shared time can nurture both heart and mind at any age." which really does say it all.
We're so proud to see the work of this group recognised, and to have a talent like Ross shining a light on it. What a lovely thing to be part of.
🗓️ What’s on in April!
First things first, a reminder of our weekly group times. Please note we won’t be running groups over Easter, so this Friday, Saturday and Monday are not on. We’ll be back on Tuesday, so we’ll see you then!
Our monthly coffee morning has moved this month and will now be on Monday 13th April. Come along for a cuppa and a catch up.
Don’t forget, every Wednesday evening we run a free craft session here at the gallery, open to all women!
We’re also really pleased to have @adamfrostartworks and @tdog_17_ back with us for a graffiti and street art exhibition, running from 4th to 19th April. It’s a brilliant show and well worth a visit.
Following that, @ax.probs returns with his much-loved People of Dover work.
And finally, our Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place on Monday 21st April, which the public are welcome to attend.

March was a big one for us !
We took part in Dover at Night running a seed swap in the gallery utilising recycled cans. A large part of our month was also dedicated to organising care packages for our registered young carers. Over 275 of them !
Dover impact festival gave the community the chance to get creative with us, vandalising the Mona Lisa and trying their hand at spray painting. We also hosted our first ticketed sober paint & sip evening, which was a huge success. We look forward to hosting more events like this at the gallery going forward!
Our volunteers also got to go to Rochester Cathedral for a volunteer thanksgiving service by the @highsheriffofkent .
We are now gearing up to Easter with a special thanks to @snapfitnessdover247 for collecting Easter Eggs for us!
Please note groups will not be running this friday, Saturday or monday due to easter holidays. Our monthly coffee morning will be on April 13th instead and we hope to see you there !
