@ekc_dovercollege Art & Design students visited Samphire Hoe as part of the Dover at Night Ecological Futures programme, responding to young people’s call for more access to local wildlife and beaches. Led by Lewis, Ranger from @wccpnews , students learned about the wildlife of the cliffs, how this environment is protected, and what it means to care for Dover’s landscape into the future. More behind the scenes of Dover at Night! 🌍 As part of Dover at Night, young people from @ekc_dovercollege worked with artist @eirinnhayhow to explore what a more sustainable future for Dover could look like. Using mycelium, natural dyes, bio-materials made from food waste, and second-hand T-shirts, young people experimented with low-impact materials to create sculptural and textile artworks shaped by their ideas about climate, environment, and change. It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and at Artswork, we see every day how creativity empowers young people and supports their wellbeing. We were inspired by the ‘top 10 actions to support good mental health’ resource created by @mentalhealthfoundation to show some of the ways our projects support wellbeing: - Get closer to nature: Young people in Dover created a bioart sculpture and habitat, highlighting the importance of access to outdoor spaces (image 1) - Get creative: Students from the Lavinia Norfolk Centre designed three new public art pieces that transformed their community in and around the school (image 2) - Plan something to look forward to: Young people transformed Sandown Station subway with a vibrant mural, creating an uplifting space for the whole community (image 3) We value mental health and know that creativity, connection, and nature all play a part in supporting young people’s wellbeing. Behind the scenes of Dover at Night 🌙 Young people from @ekc_dovercollege worked with artist @samara_scott_studio to turn waste from Dover's beach and Pencester Gardens into bold cyanotype artworks, using just sunlight, water, and reclaimed materials. Across the south, we're working with young people to lead, create and make change in their communities. Over the past 3 years, we've worked with over 17,500 young people and that number is constantly rising. Here's a round up of a few of the recent projects they've been working on... Images 1 & 2 This is the third year we've run this fantastic event, Dover at Night with young people in Dover and our partners @maisondieudover . It brings the streets and buildings of Dover to life with artwork projected on walls, workshops taking place and a real buzz in the town. Images by @nnastia.photography Image 3 We're so excited about this project, which is to add colour everywhere we can across the Wick estate in Arun. This image was taken at a family day where local young residents and their families have been planning what the final art pieces will be. We can't wait to share more when the final artworks are finished. In partnership with Littlehampton Town Council. Image 4 Young people at Playland taking part in a creative filming day for Artswork (more on this coming soon!) Image 5, 6 & 7 The transformation of an underpass in Bognor Regis and the hundreds of pieces of artwork that have been submitted by local young people has made this project a huge success. Working in partnership with West Sussex Youth Justice Service and funded in partnership with Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Safer Arun Partnership and @arundistrict.council . Dover at Night brought the whole community out to see what happens when young people lead. One night, a whole town and endless creativity! Dover at Night was a youth-led takeover of the town, co-organised with the @maisondieudover and shaped by young people from Dover who put their voices and ideas right at the heart of everything. From summer 2025, young people helped plan and curate the night, and it showed. Over 5,400 visits across 14 venues, with 40+ FREE activities that turned Dover's streets and historic spaces into different time eras. Past, present, future. All colliding in one unforgettable night. The centrepiece? A massive Time Machine, imagined and built by @ekc_dovercollege students working with artist @james_edward_frost . Visitors moved between venues collecting secret symbols from each era, all needed to fix the Time Machine and restore time itself. ⏳ Young people also chose the Maison Dieu Stage artists (Emma Sikora and Frazer Doyle), worked with @eirinnhayhow and Samara Scott on installations, and created artwork that was projected onto Dover Town Hall.
