In a number of ways I ask my students: What systems and worldviews... nurture the capacity for life and lifemaking for the most vulnerable? offer people dignity and care in life and in death? speed people toward death? And each semester and quarter I make clear to them that there can be no vision of “justice” for anyone anywhere that does not make living room for Palestinians. As Israeli occupation attempts to squeeze out life, land, water, air, resources, food, and capacities to care for individual and collective selves, Palestinians teach us all so much about love and resistance. Each quarter, I also ask students to collectively read aloud “Moving Towards Home” by June Jordan - published in 1982 in the New York Times. She is still speaking to us today. I hope you’ll read the full text: /until-return/june.html (Excerpt) Moving Towards Home by June Jordan "Where is Abu Fadi," she wailed. "Who will bring me my loved one?" New York Times, 9/20/82 (after the 1982 Phalangist/Israeli Massacre of Palestinian Refugees in Sabra and Shatila) “I need to speak about living room where the land is not bullied and beaten into a tombstone I need to speak about living room where the talk will take place in my language I need to speak about living room where my children will grow without horror I need to speak about living room where the men of my family between the ages of six and sixty-five are not marched into a roundup that leads to the grave I need to talk about living room where I can sit without grief without wailing aloud for my loved ones where I must not ask where is Abu Fadi because he will be there beside me I need to talk about living room because I need to talk about home I was born a Black woman and now I am become a Palestinian against the relentless laughter of evil there is less and less living room and where are my loved ones? It is time to make our way home.” vibe: Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst x Kendrick Lamar

What an absolute honor and joy to host @indigemama at UCSB. The students adored her at the teach-in. And the book talk/herbal workshop was packed with faculty, grads and undergrads, dope community members, and dear friends. Folks were locked in, curious, reverent, and open from start to finish, and also stayed after and ate, communed, laughed, and sang. Muchas gracias to Pānquetzani for following your call, staying in alignment with your truth, and writing Thriving Postpartum to share Indigenous knowledge with the world in an historical moment of divine reckoning. Gracias for engaging with our kind, brilliant students with your sincerity and playful presence. Gracias for 11 years of knowing your integrity, realness, strong heart, witchy humor, active listening, bright mind, wise touch, and badass feminine friendship. May the ancestors bless you and the universe protect you. Gracias to @las_maestras_center for hosting us and to the Reproductive Futures Initiative at @feministfuturesucsb for supporting the visit. Gracias to the students and friends who supported Pānquetzani and me throughout the visit. Everything surrounding the events from the months before to the days after has been a beautiful process of community building and bridging. Alhamdulillah for labor that feels like love. #IndigenousPleasure #ReproductiveJustice #PeriodHealth #WombHealth #PlantMedicine

SO excited to have @indigemama at UCSB! Come learn about Indigenous pleasure, plant magic, and period health as colonial empires fall ❤️‍🔥 This Thursday, Pānquetzani will lead a Decolonizing Reproductive Justice Teach-In for my Women of Color Resisting Violence Class at 12:30p (holler at me for invite). And at 3:30p we’ll welcome everyone for a convo around her book & work and for herbal medicine making at @las_maestras_center sponsored by @feministfuturesucsb . FREE food and books! 🌮📚 Spread the word, come through! I met Pānquetzani over a decade ago and have been grateful to work with her, learn to heal with her, laugh my ass off with her, and witness her build and move with wisdom and integrity, and in solidarity with global reproductive justice struggles since. Thrilled to bring the knowledges of radical birthworkers and healers into this brilliant and kind community of folks. It’s time for this medicine - now more than ever 🍃✨ #ReproductiveJustice #IndigenousBirthwork #DecolonizingPleasure #PostpartumCare #Internationaldayofthemidwife

Birthday rituals & Libra season tings with the sweetest squad this side of heaven 🥰 Had my work called “interdisciplinary, interdimensional, and intergalactic” during my birthday prayer and the homies really got me feeling more held, seen, and cared for than ever. Feeling more in my nature than ever. Veils between the worlds are thin. The hawks in my yard are eating good. Two owls just moved in. Blood and bones have been my teachers. Wine for the first time in a year was weird. Sherene Seikaly and Elizabeth P. Robinson are as kind as they are steadfast and brilliant 🥹 Palestine Palestine Palestine always. My flower mountain plant herb animal companions are healing me with their magic. The devas of this activating land have embraced me and my whole body. Earth is shifting and growing and radically transforming, and life and relationships are getting real deep tender and vibrant if you’re awake! Prayers for a year of love and liberation beyond our dreams, for those ready and willing to receive. ✨🧚🏽‍♀️✨

Flowers as Love Letters 🌸 from Boddhisatva Gaia 🌍 for these awakened hearts 💓 … Affirmation ~ by beloved teacher, elder, turned ancestor, #AssataShakur “I believe in living. I believe in the spectrum of Beta days and Gamma people. I believe in sunshine. In windmills and waterfalls, tricycles and rocking chairs. And i believe that seeds grow into sprouts. And sprouts grow into trees. I believe in the magic of the hands. And in the wisdom of the eyes. I believe in rain and tears. And in the blood of infinity. I believe in life. And I have seen the death parade march through the torso of earth, sculpting mud bodies in its path. I have seen the destruction of the daylight, and seen bloodthirsty maggots prayed and saluted. I have seen the kind become the blind and the blind become the bind in one easy lesson. I have walked on cut glass. I have eaten crow and blunder bread and breathed the stench of indifference. I have been locked by the lawless. Handcuffed by the haters. Gagged by the greedy. And, if i know any thing at all, it's that a wall is just a wall and nothing more at all. It can be broken down. I believe in living. I believe in birth. I believe in the sweat of love and in the fire of truth. And i believe that a lost ship, steered by tired, seasick sailors, can still be guided home to port.”

“I am an earth lover from way back… Love is my sword and truth is my compass. What is left?” -#AssataShakur, may you rest in paradise, power, fragrant flowers, and divine justice 💐 More life More templates and paradigms For life giving worlds More life for every precious sacred being More “living room” as #JuneJordan taught me For soft hearts and awakened ones to be broken open by love, and live to be healed anew to nurture and listen to and touch Mother Earth. Deathmaking was never our nature My loves, fear was never our nature As war machines plant seeds in our consciousness and relations I call in more breathing room, sweet ones for our bellies, our beloveds, our communities For the power and the expansion of radical love and new horizons of healing, as we demand justice, my God.

🪷🪷🪷 Remembering that diasporic soul reunions happen across all space times and dimensions Remembering that the spiritual work is to witness and touch and hear the depth of the pain and suffering of the world, including our own and then to purify the heart again and to consult the flowers again and to purify our hearts again and again Remembering our sacred Mother can never be corrupted the sanctity of life and love can never be corrupted Remember?
