As a journalist and host myself, I had wanted to comment on this rising debate on journalists vs. influencers for some time as the industry continues to shift drastically. I think the point that’s been missing from this debate is that it’s actually really about journalists vs. influencers vs. hosts.
All three jobs are important and serve very different functions, but not all journalists are hosts and not all influencers can host. This, I believe, is why there is such a disconnect in this area right now.
I have really admired watching hosts like @keltie , @justinasylvester , @theninaparker , @zurihall , @erinlimrhodes , @nazperez , @emorozcoo and more as they carve out a lane that’s all their own and standout amongst the pack. Hosts are important but there is room for everyone, and I think in time as we continue to navigate this in real time, balance will come!
