Wyrd of the Worldtree Ch I: Grief Unbound. ⛓️💥💔
The moment he fell, the sound of his body striking the earth shattered something inside her. The man who held her heart in his hands, now broke that heart into endless shards.
She had been angry with him. Furious at the choices he made, the pride and recklessness that led him down this path. A death born not of honor, but of mistakes. A dishonorable end. One unworthy of the warrior he once dreamed himself to be.
But anger means little when death finally takes hold. The moment the warmth left his body, all that remained was desperation.
“No…” she whispered, dropping beside him in the snow. “Not like this… he needs to be with his brothers…”
Her trembling hands searched frantically around her. His weapon had fallen beyond reach. Blood stained the dirt beneath him. She remembered the stories, the old rites, the truths every Northman knew.
A warrior must not arrive empty handed. He needed his weapon….Something….
Anything! But the air grew cold…Deathly cold.
Hel appeared before her. Half beautiful maiden, half corpse, the ruler of the dishonored dead looked upon the Völva without cruelty… but without mercy either.
“He is belongs with me” Hel said calmly.
The Völva pleaded through tears, clutching at the his leather armor.
“Please… let him carry steel… let him stand beside his brothers… please…”
But Hel would not budge.
“His fate is sealed” she answered.
The Völva screamed with the sound of a soul breaking beneath grief.
Her cries echoed through the realms themselves, through Midgard, through Helheim, through the roots of Yggdrasil where ancient things slumbered in darkness.
And something heard her.
Far below the Worldtree… Beneath the woven roots of creation… Something ancient shifted. The Gnawer of Roots….Nidhogg. His snarl wasn’t alarming, but a salve for a it brought a promise of relief… but at what cost….

Character lore dump:
🐉 Valrius was never meant to decide the fate of Eithneal or humanity- he was sent by the great draconach to watch over the mortals who found themselves lost in a world of etherial power. He never meant to interfere with how the world was destined to be, however he found his heart had been captured by an ambitious faun queen named Eurydice.
Eurydice desired to change the world, to rid it of the evil that had taken root in the hearts of mankind. She saw how people fought amongst themselves and killed one another- wishing to remove the part of the soul that made them violent selfish creatures. However in doing so, they would cease to be human at all as they would lose the ability to choose goodness for themselves...
Valrius was warned by the draconach to stay away from her, but his admiration for her only drew him right back in. She persuaded him to help her in her goals, together they reigned over Eithneal and began to be worshipped as saviors while they concocted their plans to create a spell capable of tearing the ‘evil’ from a mortal soul.
However in their time together, Valrius became aware of Eurydice’s true nature. She craved power, to rule over mindless sheep that would never oppose a self-appointed divine creature such as she...she had only been using his divine power. It then dawned on Valrius she would have never been capable of creating such a spell if it weren’t for his help to begin with. This is why the draconach warned him to stay away from her...he didn’t listen. Now to save humanity, he had to undo what he had done and stop Eurydice.
He then became what he hated most, a murderer.
