I want you to know about, learn from and give some flowers to @chereonchen . She is an important leader in US based efforts to organize the rich towards equity and justice. She is the board chair of @donorsofcolor Action, board member of @womendonors , and emeritus president of the Progress Alliance of Washington [the C4 state donor table for WA]. She became wealthy, along with her husband, working for Microsoft in the 90’s and 2000’s. In just posted the full interview with Sharon, titled, “Who’s going to reach my people but me?”. /p/whos-going-to-reach-my-people-but Sharon talks trick or treating with UNICEF boxes, being one of the only women of color in the computer science department at Yale, how she went from being an apolitical techie to a committed political donor and organizer of the wealthy, and why it’s so important to have spaces for wealthy women and wealthy people of color to learn, build and take action together. She models the type of committed, loving and rigorous organizing and movement building orientation I want for all wealthy people who want a healthy and just world. 🔥🎉👏💐 #organizetherich #crossclassmovements #solidarity #organizing #techie #womenlead #racialjustice #asianpride

@chereonchen , board chair of @donorsofcolor Action, board member of @womendonors and emeritus president of the Progress Alliance of Washington is a powerhouse in the world of progressive donor organizing. She brings the heart and the clarity with a message every progressive wealthy person needs to hear...go towards your people, organize them, take responsibility for them, believe in them! As she says... "If not me, then who." "If I believe in my own redemption, then why wouldn't I believe in other people's redemption." Thank you Sharon!!! 💯🔥👏🙌💛💚 I thought this would be a good follow-up to the clip from my interview with Linda Burnham. Sharon is a techie taking responsibility for her class and her people. So needed in this moment. Interview coming soon on the Substack.

Don’t forget to register for October’s Monthly Movement Webinar, Lift Every Voice: How Storytelling Changes Culture. We are so excited to highlight our speakers for this month’s Movement Webinar! On October 2, DOCN will be in conversation with award-winning thought-leaders and creatives in the field, discussing the power of culture and the importance of narrative change. Introducing our speakers: Throughout her life and career, Bridgit Antoinette Evans has been obsessed with one question: What is the relationship between a great story and widespread cultural change? She is a widely respected thought leader investigating this question as CEO of Pop Culture Collaborative, a $60 million fund supporting a network of 300+ pop culture artists, social movement leaders, strategists, researchers, and donors laser-focused on producing stories and other experiences that transform the “narrative oceans” harming our communities and awaken public yearning for a just and pluralist society. Imara Jones, whose work has won Emmy and Peabody Awards, is the creator of TransLash Media, a cross-platform, non-profit journalism and narrative organization, which produces content to shift the current culture of hostility towards transgender people in the US. As part of her work at TransLash, Imara hosts the TransLash Podcast as well as the investigative, limited series, The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: A Plot Against Equality. Sameer Gardezi is an award winning writer and CEO/founder of the writer development incubator, Break the Room. AS CEO, Sameer has curated 40 writers rooms globally, training over 300 writers. Break the Room has operated in over 10 countries with its latest project with ImageNation. Raiza Licea is a comedian, actor, creator, and artist, and the first woman of color to become Artistic Director for Upright Citizens Brigade, a world-renowned comedy theater and comedy school, shepherding writing, acting and sketch divisions for up-and-coming performers. She also produces "Spanish Aqui Presents," the biggest Latino live comedy show in the US. 📌 link in bio!

🗣 Storytelling, in all its forms, is one of the most effective ways to influence behavior in a long-term way. Whether it’s the TV we’re watching at home with our families, the podcasts we’re listening to on our way to work, or the content that flashes across our screen as we’re scrolling social media in the breaks throughout our day, there are countless ways to both intentionally and subconsciously influence the minds of people everywhere. Those stories, and the lessons that people learn from them can make huge strides in creating the equitable and just world we strive to live in one day. There are no limits to the examples that show that the power of narrative is massive. But what does it look like to meaningfully support that work? Join DOCN in a conversation about the importance of investing in narrative and culture change work with award-winning thought-leaders and creatives in the field. Speakers include Bridgit Antoinette Evans (CEO, Pop Culture Collaborative), Imara Jones (Founder, Translash Media) , Raiza Licea (Artistic Director, Uprights Citizens Brigade), and Sameer Gardezi (CEO, Break the Room) 📍Link in our bio!
