In 1987, the song of the Kauai Moho went unanswered, causing its extinction!
Its melody has traveled through time and space thanks to a recording made in 1986 on the island of Kauai by naturalist David Boynton. This story and the extinction of this species were the starting point for this compilation.
We wanted to share this recording with artists who inspire us, so that they could respond to it in their own way, ensuring that the bird would no longer be alone. The music blends with this song and celebrates the precious language we share.
In these difficult times, we would like to dedicate this compilation to all those who call out to the world, so that their cries do not go unanswered.

En 1987, le chant du Moho de Kauai se retrouva sans réponse, provoquant son extinction !
Sa mélodie a traversé le temps et l’espace grâce à un enregistrement réalisé en 1986 sur l’île de Kauai par le naturaliste David Boynton. Cette histoire et l’extinction de cette espèce ont été le point de départ de cette compilation.
Nous avons voulu partager cet enregistrement avec des artistes qui nous inspirent, afin qu’ils y répondent à leur manière, pour que l’oiseau ne reste plus seul. La musique se mêle à ce chant et célèbre le précieux langage que nous partageons.
En ces temps difficiles, nous souhaitons dédier cette compilation à tous ceux qui interpellent le monde, afin que leurs cris ne restent pas sans réponse.

Il musicista e produttore zurighese Don Kashew è un “dilettante” del suono, ma basta un breve assaggio del suo nuovo album “Bellows” (Subject To Restrictions Discs) per capire che è un riferimento al piacere di scavare, comporre e aggregare.
In questa inedita opera sperimentale, Kashew abbatte confini mentali e preconcetti stilistici mettendo in connessione epoche, regioni e generi musicali diversi.
È uno stile crudo e ipnotico che mi ha conquistato ascoltando il primo singolo “Pair of bellows”, un trip-hop ipnotico da 6 minuti a tinte etniche costruito sulla ripetizione incessante di un riff di chitarra, una sovrapposizione di fisarmoniche e strumenti a fiato che portano a oriente e ai quali, sul finale, si aggiunge un turbine di synth.
È un mix sperimentale e organico di folk ed elettronica dal sapore new-age. Kashew punta a un futuro che, da questi suoni, appare oscuro, carico d’ossessione e malinconia; come il tappeto su cui poggia “Ethereal machine” in cui, oltre a una ritmica lenta e trascinata, si percepiscono rullii di percussioni e piatti che si fondono sul finale con il suono di una melodica.
“Bellows” è un concept, una una montagna russa di sensazioni: “Reinbung II”, per esempio, riprende e amplifica le istanze di “Pair of bellows”, prima dell’etereo e tribale climax di “Windy outside” (di nuovo) costruito sulla ripetizione e amplificata dal suono mesto e strascicato di una fisarmonica e quello primordiale di un flauto. E fanno capolino anche le voci.
In mezzo a tanta ricchezza musicale, arriva poi il trip ipnotico di “Las Alas Rojas”, up-tempo in 4/4.
Lascio a voi il piacere di scoprire e gustare ciò che resta del viaggio elettroacustico di “Bellows”, un album ammaliante avvolto da un alone di mistero; il disco di una artista che, attingendo dalla cultura dei DJ e del sampling, sperimentando con il soffio degli strumenti a fiato, l’acustica e l’elettronica, smonta ogni certezza musicale, ricontestualizzandola in un nuovo universo.
Sono i freaks come Don Kashew a farmi amare ancora di più questo paese così musicale e curioso👌

The compositions draw from the pool of New Age music and neo-folk of the 80s and 90s. But ‘Bellows’ stretches and looks at the future, deliberately blurring lines that were supposedly anchored. So, Don Kashew has begun a new phase in his musical expression; quivering, but grounded and interwoven in a rich arras of synth work and overlapping woodwind sounds.
Don Kashew is a sonic Dilletant, who is digging, compiling and composing music. Inspired by the DJ and sampling culture, his work focuses on recontextualising music to dissolve boundaries and create new connections between different eras, regions and genres. His musical style is raw, hypnotic and yearning at the same time.
