Freediving in a cave. It was dark.

This freediver brazenly enters a shipwreck and gets stuck at the entrance at 20m. In accordance with the safety and buddy system, their dive buddy watches over them from the surface. Entry and exit points are clearly discussed. Getting stressed at the deepest part of the dive is a recipe for disaster. However, good sailors are not made in calm waters. It takes certain challenges within a safe setting to improve your mental fitness, especially getting stuck at 20m inside an overhead environment where the only exits are to the side and not up. This freediver is well-experienced and reminds other divers to dive within their capabilities. The entrance to the East Tangat Wreck of Coron, Palawan, Philippines is roughly 18-20m with an upward slope to 5m. This is a historic WWII Japanese shipwreck and how it was sunk is speculated among many dive enthusiasts. There is no overt evidence of an explosion that caused this ship to sink. So what caused this ship to sink? To improve your mental fitness below and above water, register for a freediving course. Unlock your mammalian dive reflex and explore the underwater world.

I can never get over the eerie feeling of diving historical shipwrecks. The fact that the ship’s hands perished in battle sends chills down my spine. The wreck is their memorial, their tomb and final resting place. Thank you to all the divers that treat these places with the utmost respect 🫡 #freediver #freedivephilippines #freedivephotography #wreckdive #lumafusion #lumafusionedit #departmentoftourism #traveldestinationphilippines #WWII #history #underwatermuseum #memorial #ghoststories #supernatural #ghostoncamera

In our family dive extracting crown-of-thorns starfish a sea krait descended upon us. A docile but deadly sea creature just happen to give @islandtraveller21 a love tap. 🐍 “thankssss” We are just astronauts in the ocean 🌊 #insta360 #insta360fundive

Much needed off-the-grid break. Half of us just slept almost the entire time. 🤣

6 years ago I was a weak swimmer. I could barely dive down during snorkeling and I had a fear of scuba diving. As of now, I'm probably the only person in Boracay Island that is BOTH a freedive instructor and a scuba instructor. Crazy how life works out that way. Overcoming the things I was afraid of involved a total transformation mentally and physically. Wild isn't it?

One of my best dive buddies so far is the @insta360 X5! It really captures the best moments of the dive with very little effort. I could be swimming through wrecks and can just concentrate on my buoyancy and point and shoot my way through the dive. Editing after the dive makes it nearly instantaneous! #insta360 #insta360fundive @insta360_philippines @insta360

I might have quickly judged Boracay the very first time I went diving into its waters last year but this dive trip has gagged me for real. I’ve been diving around the Philippines for years and I must say, it has among the most exciting intact wrecks for diving (Hello, Camia II?!!) and a surprisingly beautiful and thriving reef I’ve seen (my top favorite’s Fridays reef & rock, btw)! I stayed for almost 2 weeks in the island but I haven’t seen all of it! I’ve intentionally skipped Boracay for years because I personally think there’s way more fascinating islands out there that are pristine, less gentrified and laid back but this made me wanna go back, no cap. Huge thanks to the coolest, most patient dive buddy @domkoooo and the best people to dive with in the island, @divegurusboracay for this amazing experience! 🤿🫧 📸captured everything on my @insta360 X5

"No Fins? No Problem." Freediving without fins is daunting at first, but @sadurskaterina makes it look easy. One of my favorite things to do as an underwater photographer is to take photos of divers that aren't wearing fins. It looks powerful but also elegant. It communicates a soft power that I observe when I watch people dancing. It is truly the purest form of freediving. This is @sadurskaterina she is a well-decorated competitive freediving athlete, setting 9 world records, and an Olympic athlete in synchronized artistic swimming. She is one of deepest women to set a world record diving down to 88m / 288 ft under the CNF discipline (diving with no fins). After a full day of line training and teaching students, I took my students around the lake and took some photos and Kate stopped by to join the fun, with no fins, accompanied by @danieldanielkwok . Not gunna lie, I was so shy to say hi. So thank you for stopping by and having fun with us in the water! I had the pleasure to share the water with her and take a few snaps of her exploring around Barracuda Lake at @deep.week with @pala_onefreediving at the end of a training day. She brings a calming energy on the buoy and am truly grateful to have met her in person. To more photos and underwater dancing!

No fins? No problem. 6 years ago I would have never imagined I would be able to dive to the bottom and pick up my camera without fins and on a single breath. Restarting my career from square 1 due to the pandemic has been such a journey that I often reflect on it. So many what ifs in the biggest change in history we all struggled and survived through. When I started diving I never imagined that I would become an instructor in BOTH freedive and scuba diving! I’m really grateful for the doors that opened for me when I ignored my fears and just summed up 10s of courage to say yes to diving. It has definitely changed my life for the better.

Exploring Skelton Wreck after a full morning of line training. The school of big-eyed jacks caught our attention and it was fun to dive around them.
