This has been one of our staple events for the last decade - creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences with whales for every diver willing to jump in the water with these incredibly interactive and curious creatures.
But as we introduce more and more trips to our annual schedule, we have made the decision to retire this one to the Freediving Family archives.
This will be the last year we run this trip in Tonga and therefore your last opportunity to experience these migratory humpbacks with us.

Here’s how to perform a rescue in the pool!
Firstly as a buddy, it’s your responsibility to look for signs that your buddy has lost consciousness. This can include:
- releasing of bubbles
- they fail to perform the agreed check-in “Ok” signal
- they don’t respond to being tapped
- loss of coordination or decline in technique (if doing dynamic)
If you notice any of the above you may need to initiate a rescue. Once you’ve flipped your buddy over, begin the CLEAR-BLOW-TALK rescue protocol:
CLEAR facial equipment
BLOW across their face
TALK to them by calling their name and asking them to breathe
