Please join ALMA | LEWIS in welcoming Dominique Duroseau as our WINTER 2025 resident artist! Born in Chicago and raised in Haiti, Dominique Duroseau is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice examines themes of racism, socio-cultural issues, and existential dehumanization. Through sculpture, performance, video, and installation, Duroseau confronts the uncomfortable truths of race, gender, and human existence, creating works that challenge and engage audiences to reflect on societal and cultural constructs. Duroseau holds an MFA in Sculpture from the Yale School of Art, a Bachelor of Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a Master of Fine Arts from Kean University. Her work has been featured in exhibitions, performances, and screenings at prominent venues including The Kitchen, The Brooklyn Museum, and The New Museum (BWA for BLM) in New York City. Duroseau has participated as a panelist at Harvard’s Black Portraiture[s] conference and has lectured at Vassar College. Her work has earned support through prestigious fellowships and residencies, including A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn, Index Art Center, the Wassaic Project, MassMoCA, The Lunder Institute at Colby, and Yale’s Beinecke Library. Hey Y'all 🦋🖤 ‼️Reaching out HERE for SUPPORT‼️ Life has been throwing challenges my way (health, housing, etc), and despite applying for countless opportunities -- rejection is fine until the financial strain becomes tough to manage. Instead of turning to GoFundMe, I’m ASKING for HELP from those who have SUPPORTED my practice over the years and continue to do so: - by either COLLECTING some of my work at these special prices - or by SHARING it with anyone you know who might be interested. I’ve curated a selection of prints and works on paper: 1. from some of my Performance Photography works during my residencies at MASS MoCA @massmoca , Shine Portrait Studio @shine_portraitstudio , and proposed work from an awarded grant during Covid from the Creative Catalyst Fund (Newark). 2. an ongoing special edition of Black Eroticism works on paper, created during my time at Yale. Your support, in any form, would mean the world to me. Thank you🦋🫶🏿 --- All Info/Details are linked in the Bio☝🏿☝🏿🙏🏿🖤🦋

I can't make it tonight y'all — i'm unwell. The video screening is from: BEING SEEN / HEARD: a series of DRAMATIC EPISODIC PERFORMANCES Episode 3. Handle w/Care: a melodic rant of Black Emotional Collagen Doses (2021) —---- Wanted to share the vibe/context of the video series with this clip ☝🏿☝🏿☝🏿 from Episode 1. The THICKENING of THINGS: awkward gestures lead to the death of love. (Black Love). (2021) Performance w/Michael Paul Britto @brittofied —-- This four-part series of performances slowly and barely unpacks fears, exasperations, erasure and love. The feeling of navigating in the dark is portrayed through the camera’s shifts/movements, the visual choppiness, the hesitations in thought process, movements, stillness, misspoken words, etc. They serve as existential scaffoldings of one’s healing process; messy, awkward and painful. Credits: Dominique Duroseau performance, audio text, loop audio, editor Michael Paul Britto @brittofied performance, editor, videographer Zachary Fabri @zacharyfabri videographer Performed & Recorded @ Sculpture Center REMINDER: June 14th 15th Along with the PERFORMANCES @cprnyc this evening, there will be an installation of performance ephemera and videos by @domduro @marcellinemandeng @marthawilsonartist and more… for the 1st iteration of PAPAM - The Premiere American Performance Art Museum ***conceived by Esther Neff @thefenserf during the first variety show that Tsedaye and Ayana created in 2020.
