Stenhousemuir v Alloa Athletic 0-1, 16-05-2026
After 2009 and 2024 this was the third time I'd seen Stenhousemuir being promoted. Weirdly enough I never saw them win any of these games. Even stranger, I've never seen them score. I'll hope they do well in the championship. It's the first time since 1975 on that level for Stenny.

Celtic v Heart of Midlothian 3-1, 16-05-2026
Yesterday Hearts had the chance to win their first league title since 1960. All they needed was a draw and it looked if they could do it until Celtic scored in the 87th minute. Heartbreak in Gorgie, celebrations in the East End of Glasgow.

Barrow v Newport County 1-2, 02-05-2026
Another day, another relegation dogfight. With one round of fixtures to go, five clubs still could go down in League Two. Especially for Barrow it looked very grim. They had to win big and hope other results went their way. They started impressive and scored the 1-0. At that moment both clubs looked to go down. For Newport County it looked over when Barrow got a penalty. But it was missed and that changed the match. Newport County win and stayed up, while Barrow will be playing in the National League next season.

Greenock Morton v Airdrieonians 1-1, 01-05-2026
A classic relegation dogfight. Before the match Morton (8th) and Airdrieonians (9th) could still finished 8th (safe), 9th (relegation play-offs) or 10th (relegation) all depending on what Ross County did against Raith Rovers. In the end a draw was enough for both to be safe for the time being. Great news, because that means we have my favourite ground Cappielow Park in the Championship again.

Lesmahagow Juniors v Maryhill 0-3, 29-04-2026
My favourite former Junior ground in Scotland is Craighead Park, Lesmahagow Juniors ground. In days of yore almost 15.000 people could fit in this natural amphitheatre. Against Irvine Meadow in March 1948, some 14.567 people turned up. In the club house you can see a photo of this match. Those days are gone now. The club is happy when more than 100 people showed up and that happened on Wednesday. Sadly their team didn't show up and lost against Maryhill.

Largs Thistle v Buchanhaven Hearts 2-1, 26-04-2026
If you look at the score you should think it was a tight match, but Largs could have won with 6 or 7. In the end it didn't really matter, because a win was enough to progress to the final after the 1-1 in Peterhead. Barrfields is a brilliant ground with a lot of terracing, great stand and a brilliant backdrop.

Dunfermline Athletic v St. Johnstone 0-2, 21-04-2026
I love this part of the football season when I can go for a gloryhunt every week. Yesterday St. Johnstone could win the title in the Scottish Championship. Their task was easy: win at Dunfermline and you're up. The Saints are already on top since the first day of the season. They didn't made a mistake yesterday, won fairly easy and are back after a season. Sadly they played away, so no pitch invasion to join for me. But I was treated on Trainspotting toilets in the away end.

Bonnyrigg Rose v Linlithgow Rose 1-2, 18-04-2026
Last day of the Lowland League and all to play for. Linlithgow Rose was in the driver's seat, but had to beat Bonnyrigg Rose (who still had a tiny change of winning the title). It was a feisty match. Bonnyrigg scored first and it seemed all over with Clydebank being 2-0 up. But in the second Litgae raised up, scored twice and won this difficult away game and the title. If everything is alright with their license they will play Highland League champion Brora Rangers next week and the week after. The winner of those two games will face Edinburgh City for a place in the SPFL.

Linlithgow Rose v Clydebank 4-1, 11-04-2026
After we finally got rid of moneybags East Kilbride last season, the Lowland League is more interesting than ever. For a long time it looked like a four horse race, but after Linlithgow Rose beat Tranent only three are left. Before last Saturday Clydebank had 70 points, Linlithgow Rose 69 and Bonnyrigg Rose 68. So with Linlithgow Rose v Clydebank last Saturday there was only one place to go for a gloryhunter like me. Hunderds of Bankies also went to Prestonfield. If they won and Bonnyrigg dropped points the title was theirs. Bonnyrigg did drop points, but it was Litgae who won this battle with some great goals. Still three teams in the race and it's Bonnyrigg Rose v Linlithgow Rose on the last day of the season this Saturday, while Clydebank have a home game against Caledonian Braves.

Crook Town v Shildon AFC 1-2, 05-04-2026
My favourite ground in the Northern League was saved for last. I had Evie duty this day, so could only visit one of the three hop games. Of course I choose for Crook Town. I've already been here four times before, but it's one of these grounds you'll never get enough of. The main stand is more than 100 years old and there is some great terracing. The club was instrumental in making football popular in Catalonia and played FC Barcelona 10 times in three tours. It would be great if the Spaniards would one day send a team to Durham to play Crook Town.

Tow Law Town v Ryton & Crawcrook 1-1, 04-04-2026
“Arsenal are saved from a fate worse than death – a trip to Tow Law in January.", write reporter Frank McGee, after Tow Law Town lost their second round FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town. The winner of that game had a home tie against the Gunners to look forward to. Tow Law is the second highest ground in England and exposed to the elements. My first ever visit there ended in a P-P because of snow. It was April. The second time in November was called off because of a frozen pitch. This time on the hop there was no snow or frost, but wind. I. almost knocked my phone out of my hands when I took a photo. Tow Law Town; not for the faint-hearted.

North Shields v Whitley Bay 2-1, 04-04-2026
We didn't do the first two hop games as we choose to visit the derby North Shields v Whitley Bay also known as El Coastico. More than 1.200 people decided to visit this match in the 9th tier of English football, unbelievable numbers. We had some chat with supporters who said the derby is no Old Firm. Most people know each other. Lots of North Shielders prefer to go to Whitley Bay to go out and their chippies are better, as one banner said.
