I pledged to only buy FIVE new things for my closet this year- clothing, jewelry and shoes. Last year I did this, and I only bought two items. This year I bought seven. And while I went over, I still think I did awesome!! The point of the challenge is just to be mindful of your purchases and think them through. Please hold off on your yard work until daily temperatures are consistently 10°C for at least a week to ten days, with warm night temperatures. For our Saskatoon forecast, this looks like you could start counting on Wednesday! If you aren't from Saskatoon, count 7-10 days of over 10°C weather and warm nights before starting. If you start your cleanup too early, you risk killing this years pollinators which are so important. Native bees, butterflies and ladybugs hibernate in the leaf litter, dead plants and hollow stems. Embrace the mess and take something off your to-do list! The messy yards and early dandelions are crucial to so many species. If you must get your hands dirty, chop and drop. Hold the FOAM! Thanks to a partnership between @sarcanrecycling and @skrecycles , you can now recycle foam at all 73 SARCAN locations across the province | Ad And it's not just the white styrofoam you see in electronics and appliance packaging. It can be colored foam, takeout containers & cups, and clean trays from meat! Even the squishy cushion packaging and sheets can now be recycled (shown in video), they just go in the soft plastics bin at your local depot. This foam is sent to downstream partners and then used to produce things like construction trim, crown moulding and photo frames! How cool is that?! Inboxes swamped with earth day emails from brands who don't have sustainability on their website? Brands finally posting something about the planet on their socials? Don't. Give. Them. A. Dime. Easy green washing tells: 🍃when the brand never talks about sustainability or ethics 🍃when the brand doesn't have anything on their website about sustainability or ethics 🍃if the words: eco, green or natural are in front of a product with limited information to back it up 🍃when no certifications are listed for these so called enviro products 🍃Earth Day sales for brands who don't do anything for the planet 🍃'sustainable collections' that might seem decent but the brand doesn't do this with all of their items.
