For the 2nd year now, members of our team joined the Meewasin Valley Authority earlier this week to beautify our river bank by removing garbage along the Meewasin trail system beside the weir. Check out Brendan's giant catch! 🎣 Meewasin is a non-profit organization that exists to ensure a healthy and vibrant river valley, with a balance between human use and conservation, for the benefit of present and future generations. Today, on Red Dress Day, we honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people. Across Kisiskâciwan (Saskatchewan) and beyond, empty red dresses hang as powerful symbols, of lives taken too soon, families still searching for answers, and communities carrying both grief and strength. Red is chosen because it calls the spirits of the missing and murdered back home, and represents strength, blood, and the connection of life and death. At SK Recycles, we stand in reflection and solidarity with Indigenous communities. We recognize that remembrance must be paired with action, listening, learning, and supporting pathways toward safety and respect. We invite everyone to take a moment today to reflect, to learn, and to honour the voices and stories that must never be forgotten. Every dress tells a story. Every life matters. This past Earth Day, the City of Yorkton and SaskAbilities marked an exciting step forward together 🌎 A new partnership is helping strengthen residential recycling in Yorkton. The City is working with SK Recycles to collect more household packaging and paper, making it easier and more accessible for residents to participate. SaskAbilities Yorkton plays a key role by receiving these materials and preparing them for processing. Through their work, recyclables are transformed into high-quality commodities that can be used to make new products. Launching this program on Earth Day highlights what’s possible when communities, organizations and industry come together with a shared goal. We’re proud to partner with the City of Yorkton and SaskAbilities Yorkton to make recycling work better and help protect the environment across Saskatchewan ♻️ #EarthDay #RecyclingMatters #CircularEconomy #Saskatchewan #Sustainability

We’re proud to share that SK Recycles, alongside Recycle BC, Circular Materials, Éco Entreprises Québec and Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba have received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR). This recognition reflects our national collaboration to develop Ecodesign Guidelines to support greater recyclability of packaging and paper products. Building on work initiated by Éco Entreprises Québec in 2024, the guidelines — anticipated for completion in December 2026 — marks a major step towards a harmonized national framework that will provide clear guidance to thousands of producers who market their goods in more than one province or territory across Canada. As EPR regulations continue to roll out, ecodesign is essential to improving performance and cost efficiency of recycling systems and advancing a circular economy. We’re honoured to be recognized alongside our partners and to continue working together to support better packaging and paper recycling across Canada. ♻️ When is Easter is over, recycle candy packaging at SARCAN such as the following items accepted under Flexible Plastics: • ✅ Stand-up zipper lock pouches (that often contain smaller chocolates) • ✅ Non-stand up crinkly packaging (that often contain smaller chocolates - they are also commonly seen packaging chocolate chips) • ✅ Wrappers that packaged large easter eggs, chocolate animals or bunnies (remove any fabric ribbons and metal bells or other embellishments). Leave these out (not accepted): • ❌ Clear cellophane from gift baskets • ❌ Ribbons, bows, bells and other embellishments on chocolate, candy, or easter baskets More about cellophane: Modern cellophane is often coated with chemicals (like nitrocellulose, wax, or polyethylene) to enhance its properties, making it unrecyclable through conventional methods. How to tell if it's cellophane: Cellophane is commonly used on flower arrangements such as bouquets, and gift baskets. If unsure, do the "Scrunch 'n' Sort"! Scrunch the material in your hand. Instead of a crunch noise when crumpled, cellophane sounds squeaky and retains its shape / re-expands very quickly. ❓What Can I Recycle❓ Accepted✅: Foam Packaging (often called by its product name, Styrofoam) is only accepted at SARCAN depots and does not belong in your recycling. There are many types of foam packaging that are in use here in SK, but not all types of foam are accepted for recycling. The general rule of thumb is that if the foam snaps, it is accepted. ❌ If it is a flexible foam sheet that is shiny, it should be recycled as Flexible Plastics instead. 🌿 Fresh season, fresh start. Don’t forget the depot! ♻️ Doing a spring refresh at home? As you sort and simplify, set aside these items for your next depot visit: 🍾 Glass bottles & jars – Give non-deposit glass a quick rinse and drop it off for recycling. 🛍️ Flexible plastics – Plastic bags, overwrap, and crinkly wrappers belong at the depot. 📦 Foam packaging – Foam trays, egg cartons, and protective cushion packaging are recyclable too. Clear the clutter and recycle smarter this spring 🌷✨ #SpringCleaning #RecycleRight #SARCAN #SKrecycles #WasteReduction

♻️ It's Global Recycling Day! ♻️ ❓Why does recycling matter?❓ Reducing waste is one of the most effective ways we can lessen our environmental footprint. Recycling keeps materials out of landfills, conserves natural resources and energy, and supports a growing green economy. 🌎 For example, the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council notes that producing paper from recycled fibers uses 60% less energy and 80% less water than making it from virgin materials. ⚡ Right now, paper and packaging make up 30–40% of household waste. That’s a significant portion that could be diverted — and a clear opportunity to make a meaningful environmental impact. ♻️ Learn more about how you can reduce your impact at SKRecycles.ca 🌿 #RecycleRight #WasteReduction #SKRecycles #CircularEconomy
