Meet Matt, 24, from Leeds. A former competitive swimmer who works in events… and now he’s a lifesaver too! ā€œI signed up when DKMS came to my uni, they said young men often make the best stem cell donors but are the least likely to join - so I thought it was important,ā€ he explains. Matt signed up, forgot all about it… then years later got the call šŸ“ž Turns out, he was someone’s only match. ā€œI was relieved to hear that most people are able to donate through their blood, so it was going to be a relatively easy procedure. I was just so glad I could help.ā€ (9 out of 10 donations look similar to giving blood platelets, btw) Three mouth swabs āž”ļø one donation day āž”ļø a second chance at life! Only 7% of eligible people in the UK are on the register and Matt wants to help change that… ā€œI’ve been telling as many people as I can, because more people should know how important it is - and how easy it is. It’s especially important for guys my age to sign up. I’d 100% do it again.ā€ If you’re 17–55 and in good health, you could be someone’s match. Matt was and so could you. šŸ‘‰ Sign up. Swab. Save a life.

Three cheek swabs. A lifesaving difference. Meet Jasmin - one of the faces of our Do the Swab campaign. She shares: ā€œI already donate blood in my spare time, so I feel like registering as a stem cell donor is in a similar ballpark… ā€œI just think it's a great, fulfilling way to give back to people in your community and people in need. I would definitely love to give stem cells if I were called as a match for someone.ā€ Stick it in. Save a life. Tap the link in our bio to order your swab kit today. šŸ”—

Saving a life could literally start with a swab. Meet Mel - one of the faces of our Do The Swab campaign. ✨ She says: ā€œRegistering as a stem cell donor is a very small thing to do to save someone’s life. The idea of giving someone a possible second chance at life is a very powerful reason to sign up. ā€œAs soon as you get a better understanding of how simple the process is, there’s really nothing that should stop you.ā€ Stick it in. šŸ”„ Beth needs your help - please share! šŸ”„ Beth is 31, from Bristol, and has acute myeloid leukaemia. To survive, Beth needs a stem cell transplant. But because she’s of dual heritage, finding a matching donor is much harder. ā€œThere aren’t enough mixed race donors on the register. I really want to change that - not just for me, but for everyone in my position.ā€ Beth is hoping her sister is a match for her. If not, Beth will need to rely on the kindness of a stranger to save her life. ā€œNothing would mean more to me than getting a stem cell transplant. It would give me the chance to rebuild my life. ā€œBeing diagnosed was the worst day of my life because there was so much to process, and I knew that life wasn’t going to be the same again, at least not for a while. But knowing a stem cell transplant could save me has really helped me cope. ā€œI am very lucky to have a wonderful family and gorgeous friends, who have given me so much love and support. It’s been very hard for them to watch the difficult journey that I’m about to embark upon. ā€œThey keep me going, keep me smiling, especially my partner, Alice. She has been my absolute rock and I don’t know what I’d do without her.ā€ Most people don’t realise: 🩸 90% of stem cell donations are NON-surgical. It’s similar to giving blood and could give someone their entire future back. If you’re 16–55, you can register as a potential donor in minutes: šŸ‘‰ dkms.org.uk/Beth_ig (link in bio) Already registered? Make sure to like, comment on, and SHARE this post to help Beth and others like her!

ā€œAt 18 years old, I didn’t realise that I could have such an impact on someone’s life, and it all started with simply saying yes.ā€ Meet Jamie from Ireland… A totally normal teenager preparing for his A-Levels, hoping to study Marine Biology at uni. But he’s also just done something pretty incredible: ✨ He’s the FIRST donor from DKMS UK’s new schools programme ✨ AND he’s DKMS UK’s 3000th stem cell donor !! Jamie signed up when DKMS visited his school last year: ā€œI supplied the cheek swabs that same day… I definitely didn’t think I’d ever be contacted.ā€ Only a few months later, against high odds, he got an email to say he was a match for a patient in need. ā€œIt was just after my 18th birthday. Having been on the register for such a short time, I think everyone was surprised to find out I had been identified as a match - I was very surprised myself. ā€œI was nervous at first, but the opportunity to help someone else outweighed the nerves. ā€œDKMS kept in touch through the whole process. You could hear in every phone call how excited they were about finding me, which definitely gave me a boost of encouragement!ā€ Jamie travelled to Sheffield with his mum to donate his stem cells. ā€œIt was amazing to see the machine working,ā€ says Jamie. ā€œIt was a 5-hour process, so I got out my laptop, put on Netflix, sat back and relaxed. ā€œThe staff at the hospital were lovely, making sure I was comfortable and well fed the entire time.ā€ And it gets even better 🄺 Jamie found out he was the first donor to come from DKMS' school programme - Generation Lifesaver - while he was actually donating - and couldn’t wait to tell his teacher, Mrs Sayers, who brought DKMS into his school in the first place. ā€œI knew she would be delighted. She has been a big support, especially as the donation was happening during my A-Level exams. It’s been a nice way for me to end my school journey.ā€ One simple yes really can change someone’s life. Inspired by Jamie’s story? Hit the link in our bio to register as a stem cell donor today.

Meet Michael - model, traveller, wellness lover… and living with sickle cell. ā€œIt was so refreshing learning more about DKMS and the mission they’re on - how I could help, and how I could pass that knowledge on to people around me, too. Not just raising awareness, but actually starting conversations.ā€ Michael is one of the faces of our Do The Swab campaign - but for him, the mission is personal. ā€œThe earliest moment I remember was during a sickle cell crisis. I didn’t even know what that was at the time. Flying a lot, dehydration, stress on my body - it all built up and triggered it.ā€ A stem cell transplant can often be a treatment option for people with sickle cell. By joining the stem cell register, you’re having a real, positive impact on the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders. So… are you registered as a donor yet? Don’t forget: Stick it in. Save a life.
