Come say hi this coming First Friday @makerspacesellwood from 6-8. The raddest community makerspace around was kind enough to want my art on their walls from now through June, and I’m so excited to show it to you. @djcomputerblue will be spinning the trax. Masks so appreciated.
All 28 of my Santa Anita paintings are now available for purchase on my website, seven of which are now featured in Makerspace. Those seven are also available for purchase in store, and are framed in custom, hand-painted cedar.
The series was initially sparked by the colors and shapes I found in an old, closed-off section of the Santa Anita racetrack on a trip there with my father in the Spring of 2023. Each of them are a dedicated thinking-through of a small simple idea found in artists like Josef Albers, Etel Adnan, and Agnes Martin. They’re vaguely nostalgic, a nod to colors and patterns unintentionally preserved in time, and something I could imagine on the wall in the background of a Jaques Tati film.
But original art! Sign up for workshops at Makerspace. Support small local businesses, support local artists, make cool shit, and make your spaces happy.
