Today marks 16 years since DJ AM passed and it still remains such a tragic loss to the DJ, music and recovery communities. Adam meant so much to so many, including myself, but today I’m happy to be posting another previously unreleased mix direct from his archives to lift the collective spirits of this community.
This mix is the first hour of his set at Hyde in Los Angeles in July of 2008. It’s basically an Elton style mix of classic alternative with some R&B at the end. What makes this set special is that it includes many tracks that he didn’t regularly play out or mix with each other.
Hope it helps to brighten your day as you reminisce about Adam’s life & affect on the important communities that he was a part of. I was recently sent a new previously unreleased mix of DJ AM playing @perkins_park in Stuttgart, Germany in 2008. This event was just a few days before the fateful plane crash. After doing some digging & research, I’ve put together a full post about his gigs in Germany during that trip complete with TWO nearly 3 hour mixes, some still images & videos that highlight three of those 2008 gigs in Europe. Rest in peace to the legendary Fatman Scoop. Most people know him from the Crooklyn Clan party break “Be Faithful” and rightfully so, a classic anthem that is still played today on dancefloors all around the globe. DJ AM fans will probably remember him for the classic “Fatman Scoop, AM, Fatman Scoop, DJ AM” loop that Adam played every night as part of his routine into Usher’s “Yeah”. Reeling not only from the scandal of his father’s financial crimes but the impact Herbert's secret life had on their marriage, Adam’s mother pulls up the roots and moves her son out west with her.
