Led by graduates of the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, Britt Olsen-Ecker and Melissa Wimbish have released three studio albums including Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 (2022), a culmination of 10 years of songwriting. seriously, I haven’t done an introduction post yet??? let’s remedy that - Hi! i’m J (he/him), a trans and gender-nonconforming musician, songwriter, and dj, based here in Baltimore. You might know me as the guitarist from the queer noise-pop trio Manners Manners, with whom I’ve been going steady for a decade. I’ve been making ~guitar music~ as a solo artist and in bands for over 15 years now, with stints in The Selkies, Guided by Wire, Silence Kid, and a smattering of others. Indie rock is the world I know best, and dance music is still something of a frontier for me. I approach dj’ing, humbly, as a largely untrained magpie collage artist. Being of service to a crowd in this role is uniquely rewarding, and presents history lessons and stimulating challenges to me at every turn. I don’t settle for creative endeavors that don’t scratch an intellectual itch, and this is no exception. I’m risking being embarassingly sincere and serious here, so I’ll cut to the chase already: I’m throwing my first dance party, NEW DELUSION, next Saturday, December 14th, at the Club Car! Expect disco (old and nü), house, cunty techno, funk, indie sleaze, hi-nrg, hit ‘em, pop girlies, divas, Devo, freak wave, permanent wave, wave wave…will it cohere?
