Letâs go snorkeling between continents.
It starts with a dry suit (yes, itâs tight), a quick briefing, and then youâre in. Floating between tectonic plates in glacier water filtered through lava rock, with visibility that almost doesnât feel real.
Cold? Yes.
Worth it? Always.
Guided in Silfra for decades by people who know it well.

SILFRA đ
Our favorite spot!
What makes Silfra truly unique is its geological setting:
visitors float or dive between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, a rare opportunity found in only a few places worldwide.
The fissure is divided into distinct sectionsâsuch as Silfra Big Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoonâeach offering a different underwater landscape, from narrow, dramatic passages to wide, cathedral-like spaces filled with intense blue hues. đ
Silfra is suitable for both snorkelers and certified divers, with guided tours available year-round.
đ€ż Snorkeling is accessible even to beginners, as participants float effortlessly in dry suits and require no prior snorkeling experience; however, all snorkelers must be comfortable in the water and able to swim.
Diving tours, on the other hand, are ideal for certified dry-suit divers seeking a calm, cold-water dive with minimal currents and unparalleled visibility.
Have you been to Silfra? What makes this spot special for you?
"Is it worth it?" you ask. đ€ż Out of 8 million listings in the world, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.
Snorkeling in Silfra with Dive.is has been named the #1 Bucket List Experience in the World - TripAdvisor Best of the Best 2026 awards. đ
So if it's on your bucket list, this is your sign. Just be sure to do it with the best of the best đ
Silfra sits inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site đ Thingvellir National Park.
The water you float in has been filtering through lava rock for up to 100 years.
The visibility reaches 100 metres, not because of anything we do, but because this place has been left largely undisturbed.
We have been operating here since 1997. That comes with a responsibility we take seriously every day, not just today.
Happy Earth Day. Take care of the places that take your breath away.

Over the years, weâve trained thousands of divers here in Iceland, from first-time dry suit users to experienced divers expanding their range. Dive.is by Icelandia has once again been named @paditv âs most certifying dry suit centre worldwide for 2025.
Dry suit diving isnât just a specialty; itâs a skill that builds confidence, control, and capability in some of the most demanding underwater environments.
This recognition reflects the consistency of that work â and the people behind it. Thank you to our team, and to every diver who has trained with us.

Did you know you can literally float between two continents? đ
Snorkeling in Silfra Fissure, Iceland was one of those âis this even real?â moments. The water is so clear it feels like youâre flying⊠not swimming. đ
We did this with Dive.is @dive.is and the whole experience was unrealâfrom getting into a dry suit (yes, the water is freezing đ„¶) to slowly drifting through the most insane shades of blue and turquoise between the North American and Eurasian plates.
Itâs not about marine life here⊠itâs about the silence, the clarity, the feeling of being in another world. âš
And just when you think it canât get better⊠you end with hot chocolate. âïž
Honestly, one for the bucket list.

Swimming between two continents sounds unreal⊠until you do it đ€żâš
Snorkeling in Silfra Fissure was easily one of the most unique experiences in Iceland. This rift sits between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and thanks to glacial meltwater filtered through volcanic rock, the visibility here is insanely clear-up to 100 meters or 300 feet.
The water is freezing (2-4°C year-round about 35 degrees Fahrenheit), but dry suits keep you insulated so you can fully enjoy the experience without actually feeling the cold. Floating through these deep blue cracks honestly feels like another planet.

Youâre floating between continents⊠and it doesnât feel real.
The water is crystal clear. The silence is unreal. And the deeper you go, the more surreal it gets.
Snorkel at the surface or dive into the depths of Silfra. Either way, this is one of those experiences youâll never forget.
Save this for your Iceland bucket list. Let @dive.is be your guides.
So which will it be?
